Went to clean my steering wheel with some Adam's Leather and Interior Cleaner (which is great, by the way), but was too aggressive and took a small patch of the finish off my M sport steering wheel.

Son of a.... I should have just used water. Not the fault of Adam's by any stretch - MY FAULT.

Any remedies to this?

So disappointed right now....

See if there's a steering wheel refinishing place that your dealer can recommend.

Luckily I was able to get my steering wheel refinished for an affordable price and it looked/looks as good as new!

Of course, this is only if the patch is bothering you that much!Good luck man

Thanks, that's a good idea. There is a Fibrenew franchise where I live, so I've reached out to them and will see what they say.

Out of curiosity, I had a look at what a new wheel would cost. Yeeeouch!

Interesting. Thanks John. Certainly an option. I have a quote from my local Fibrenew franchise for about CDN$110, which is very reasonable. I’m willing to bet he will be much more thorough and careful than I using the Leatherique, but as I say it’s certainly an option.

Always test on a small unseen area and in the future always start with the least aggressive approach and move forward accordingly.

I have found a damp microfiber towel works really well on the steering wheel to remove oils/grease and make it look brand new. No chemicals required.

Hopefully the refinish will bring the wheel back to your standards!

Just following up on this.

I had my local Fibrenew franchise come out and fix the steering wheel. They repainted it and re-coated the entire wheel. I'd say it came out quite nice. Pics below.

The same thing happened to me. It seems to be a problem with the msport steering wheels. I bought the suede mewant steering wheel cover off of Amazon and love it. Definitely gives it a more sporty grip feeling. Only thing is is you have to sew it on yourself and it takes forever if you do it right. Took me 3-4 hrs. You see it with the steering wheel on. I have never sewn anything in my life and it came out great. Just pay attention to detail when you do it.

My M-Sport wheel was faded in a few spots also. I hated it. Of course the dealer wouldn't do anything for me so I decided to wrap it. Pretty sure it is the same seller that someone posted above.

man seems like f3x generation has some poor quality on the m-sport steering wheels. that's a real shame

I contacted my dealership about my wheel having the same issue. They said that BMW has consistently said this issue is "normal wear and tear" so it isn't covered under warranty. Because of this response, I called BMW customer relations and opened a case. They asked me to send pictures. I did tell them that I have a 160k mile Silverado with a leather wheel and it still looks new. I also have a 50k mile Hyundai with a leather wheel that still looks new, but a 36k mile BMW looks pretty bad. I also sent them a picture to show that the interior looks new and not worn out. I have seen some leather wheels that look bad, but so did the entire car. A perfectly clean/maintained car shouldn't have a steering wheel that looks like this. I am waiting their response.

I also added my Silverado wheel which coincidentally also shows the mileage.

I got a little aggressive on the cleaning of the steering wheel too. I think I took off some of the dye as the microfiber towel I was using turned black and it wasn't dirt.

It was just a small spot but it bugged me. I tried this...

Apparently, it's the same dye that some detailers spray on. It can also be wiped on. I tried a small spot with a low pile microfiber towel and it was great. Put 2 coats on the whole steering wheel. It looks new again... same texture/feel/color as new!!!

When I had a Dodge truck and my steering wheel starting peeling, Dodge replaced it no questions. BMW? Naah, that's just wear and tear in their eyes. Terrible.

Doing this to my F30 and wanted to know what shade of leather dye to purchase on leatherworldtech. There are two black options when it comes to the BMW specific dye Did you get "black" or "jet black" for your steering wheel? Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I used the regular black. It was a perfect match.
