Before and After Dyno Sheets for Downpipe

What's up guys.

Will be dropping off my 15 328i Xdrive on July 12th to get some dynos done.

Current mods: Intercooler, chargepiping, air intake, turbo inlet pipe and oil catch.

I will be getting a baseline dyno. Then we will be installing a catless downpipe to see the results/gains.

But then after that we will be installing a downpipe with a 200 cell high flow cat to see what the effects are.

***Update results posted on July 16th***

Cool. Interested to see the outcome. Which ECU tuning you would be using or just stock ECU?

No tune as of now. I will eventually be going BM3 but that's still a few months down the line.

Which downpipe are you installing that has a 300 cell HFC? I don't recall seeing any with a 300 cell, just 200 cell ones. Looking forward to some dyno numbers!

My apologies, I misspoke. it is a 200 cell. I am fabricating a Magnaflow 59929 high flow cat with VBand flanges to replace the original 2.25 connection that meets the mid pipe.

From what I've heard about most turbo vehicles, even non-BMW's, is that a high flow/ catless downpipe with no tune will make minimal power increases. I'm interested to see what kind of gains their will be over stock with the catless and 200 cell.

If it’s an N26 you should see large gains over 5500rpm due to the lower cell cats. 900 down to 200 which should be slightly better than the N20. I’m running this setup now with no tune so definitely interested to see numbers. Looking forward to it.

I agree with NicksN20F30, the power gains will be pretty minimal with just the DP and no tune. Interested to see how it goes anyway though! Looking forward to the results.

Nice I wouldn't be surprised if you picked up more power than you lost, while going from a 2.25" pipe to a 3" high flow cat.

Going by a post on fb, catless gained a lot of tq earlier but once it reaches the tq/hp targets it stayed within stock numbers

Alright guys. I love science experiments. N20 with Xdrive. And with that said...I am pleased with my results. A couple of people on Facebook implied that I posted this because I was complaining. this was just simply an experiment.

Mods: Air intake, FTP turbo inlet, treadstone charge piping, GPlus intercooler, custom oil catch, stock tune.

Black plot is stock downpipe. Red is catless. As you can see the vehicle made about 70ftlb more torque in the 2500rpm range. But I lost HP overall.

Conclusion: the N20 (as well as the N55) has a target load. Modifications will help you get to that target quicker but once it achieves that load the engine has done its job, therefore no serious power increases in the higher RPM range on a stock tune.

ALSO, I will be going catted downpipe to compare. At the end of the day I believe a catted downpipe will have no serious damper on performance.

Nice, thanks for posting. Good results for a car on the stock tune. You should be up around 280whp when it's tuned.
