330e suspension

Hello,
I’ve got a 330e since new, and it always had some very “bad” suspension. On the highway, for example, taking some turns at 130km/h feels very dangerous. I never drove any F series car before, so I thought it was normal. Now I’ve got a 428xi for my wife, standard suspension, and it feels way better, no corrections needed on the steering on the same turns and a lot more firm.

Now I wanted to get some sportier shocks for the car, but it has the hybrid system in the back, and that means the car’s got higher axle load numbers, so no shocks are compatible. I was interested in the B12 pro-kit from Bilatein, (46-223661) but it has way lower axle load than my car. The solution may be getting the 340i B12 (46-223678) which axle load is good in the front but 30kg less in the read. Could that be a problem? Bmw rates the 330e axle load to 1000kg upfront and 1260kg in the back.

Anyone could help with any solution? Thanks.

How does the rear weight compare with that of an F31 or F34? If it's close to those, finding shocks tuned specifically for those chassis may work for you.

Does your car have the base or m-sport suspension?

There are a number of options on both springs and dampers that are close to spec (typically 1230kg rear instead of 1260kg), which will be fine. You may see like 5mm additional drop.

I recently installed HR Sport springs on my 330e and it got the car much more settled during active driving. Adding dampers as well would probably be ideal, but my car's only gone 30,000km, so so far it's fine.

It's pretty low in the back, but you will be fine unless you have really wide wheels.

I've got 265/35R19 on 9.5" wheels (ET40) in the rear, and it JUST fits. 255 would have been perfectly fine.

It was actually slightly lower than a regular F30 in the back to begin with (I have the M-sport suspension), so I'm not sure even BMW changed the springs from the non-hybrid model.. The weight difference just isn't that much.

They definitely did. If you look on the BMW ETK system the F30 330e base suspension springs are the same as the F34 330ix GT base suspension springs. Also, the F30 330e M-sport suspension springs are the same as the F34 330ix GT Adaptive-M suspension springs. They're stiffer than F30 330i and ix springs.

I think that the F34 340i shocks are perfect. By the way I have base suspension and stock 17” with ROF tyres but I’m thinking about upgrading to 19” with normal tyres, it shouldn’t be that more stiffer because of the tyre difference.

Do you suggest changing anything else while swapping the shocks?

Okay. Anyway, they still sit slightly lower than the a regular F30 M-sport, and springs or dampers rated at slightly lower than the actual rated weight should be fine. 30kg rated difference isn't more than the difference of a child in the rear seat or two suitcases in the back.

Also, your finding should confirm that finding aftermarket springs and/or shocks that are compatible with F34 GT should be a safe bet at least.
