Well that's racing, and they don't use 2 tonne saloons! They also have ridiculous budgets.

Normal folk who do regular track days tend to swap out ceramic brakes for steel ones, as track use will wear out the discs pretty quickly.

well i will agree and disagree at the same time. Generally , if we talking frequent track days , CC would be better and whole point behind them , as you well know , is durability , heat dissipation and reduced unsprung weight in corners. From experience , if never driven CC car before you are going to have a very fun ride as initial bite is very soft , especially low speed / low temp on brakes. Then you are hard on brakes and fun begins... perhaps they getting damaged quicker this way. Very true regarding weight , 2 tonne monster on CC brakes especially in novice hands in very dangerous and steels would be preferable. I guess it depends on many factors.

Explained in below article.

Having said all that I came across this article and found it a good read

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/24/...r-race-tracks/
There's no doubts CC brakes are better in many regards, but hard track use wears them out due to the heat, and they cost crazy money to replace. It's nothing more than that.

Even the guy I know who uses his Performante on track swapped his CC discs for steel ones. Only the properly rich would do it.

Track use is expensive enough without many thousands on new CC discs every year.

Never had a horror bill on an M car across 5 and 200,000 miles, they are not that much more to service than a regular BMW.

As much as I dispise Halliwell Jones, this deal isn't too bad considering the car you're getting:
https://www.halliwelljones.co.uk/bmw.../bmw-m5-saloon

729 P/M
Deposit £4999.00
APR 3.9%

It seems Williams are offering the same deal.

It's about 4k more than the Peter Vardy offer though on the same car.

If you VT you don't need to pay excess mileage, hence why TRL's deals are all for 8k pa.

Although, BMW may still send threatening letters and possibly put it on your credit rating, but I think that's only if you don't buy another BMW.

I'm assuming you signed up for 8k? So how many miles per year do you actually do then?

TRL won't have a clue, car doesn't generally go back to the dealer, only BMW finance battle with you about it.

And take Teaston's advice with a pinch of salt, he talks a good game, but as far as I understand it, he's never VT'd a car with more miles than it should have.

When I bought my last car BMW finance were allowing you to increase your mileage allowance for free, but I guess they stopped that so they weren't encouraging people to get deals on lower mileage allowance than they need.

Absolutely correct, my information is based on the experiences of others.

I haven't told anyone that nothing will happen if you do this, as I say, BMWFS may well pursue you for the excess mileage charge, and it may affect your credit rating.

Personally I see no reason to not get a lower mileage deal, if you do pay the excess mileage charge, you're just paying what you would have paid had you got the correct mileage deal, and if you end up doing less mileage then you save money.

Your first pronouncement on the matter seemed very clear and adamant, you even explain that TRL's deals are set up this way, you then go on to unravel that position within one post...to:

I've never done it, I haven't got a clue really and yes something bad will probably happen....

Superb!

No not at all, according to the VT rules you absolutely do not have to pay the excess mileage charge. That's what I did say, and what I'm still saying.

BMWFS do not necessarily act in complete accordance with the applicable rules, which is the case with the small number of people who have been pursued and had their credit rating affected. BMWFS have not taken anyone to court over this, most likely because they know they'd lose.

Unless they take someone to Court there is no way BMWFS can affect anyone’s credit rating.

Interesting article dealing with excess mileage and VT
