$1400 lmaooo I'll do it for half AND buy the parts for you.

What a joke.

OE parts suck as well, way too dusty and rust easily. Zimmerman/Akebono is the best setup for a daily.

I agree at your speeds... otherwise I would go for Brembo

Lets try to be clear, BMW only replaces the same parts with the same.
Assumptions are
Performance rotors 430€, Pads 140€, Sensor 20€. Makes it 715$, the rest is labour :-)

I should add that I live in the Bay Area - might explain some of the inflated prices.

Dealer quoted me $1460 - 15% = $1241
Indy = $1088

I know OEM parts are in the ball park of $600-700. Didn't say I'd use OEM lol

Also... dont mention that number when calling Indy. Let him quote you on his own.

Should be done for around $700 total including OEM parts. Depending on labor rate maybe $800.

You can source the parts yourself for about $500 shipped.

This is not a very involved service for someone who knows what they are doing. Should not be more than 2 hours labor maximum. He'll do it in half that.
Are we talking MSport brakes?

You are looking at at least $800 to 1k for just the rotors and pads for those plus labor.

Otherwise rotors and pads of lifetime quality and better pads are going to run about what you said... then find a local shop to do install. Also don’t forget our new fluid in like Motul and flush it.

Oh and you need new brake sensors as well another $100+.

My MSport by an Indy who also sourced the parts with upgraded pads with labor was $1420 about....$300 was labor for that. So parts could have been sourced myself for maybe $900+ as a guess at the lowest taking out his slight markup.

BTW Indy charged $237 per 370mm rotor OEM...FCP wants $289 direct to you for those same oem fronts. So not sure how buying yourself is always cheaper?!?!

From Turner Motorsports:
"Zimmerman is an OE manufacturer to Porsche and VW/Audi and have been making replacement BMW rotors for years."

The M-sport brakes are Brembo, which definitely isn't BMW.

I guess the translation is wrong, Turner puts on their homepage. I Germany Zimmerman advertises with a term similar to "we manufature copies of OEM BMW brakes". But this is what erverybody else does. Otherwise they would not fit

Please let us be more precise. The calipers are Brembo but the rotors are BMW.

Raw parts made of cast iron with lamellar graphite (gray cast iron) are used to manufacture brake linings, brake disks and brake drums. The composition of the gray cast iron is based on the OE specification. In order to positively influence the properties of gray cast iron for the durability and machining of a brake disc, different components are added to the base material. At Otto Zimmermann, this composition is coordinated with the composition of the OE panes. Shares such as Copper, molybdenum, carbon and titanium in the iron alloy are analyzed for each individual OE disk and implemented for the Zimmermann blanks.

So can we now bury the myth that Zimmermann produces for BMW?

I don't think it's worth the $$ to go OEM on brake parts. No discernible difference for me, at least, when I threw on some cheap Duralast pads.

Thanks for the research.

Zimmermann still the best bang for the buck OEM replacement blanks.

Anyway, there are more cheaper rotor replacement out there. For OP quote of $1400, he should be able to get the front and rear replace together for it.

Why don't you have a look at these pictures. Everytime I put Zimmermann on I was disapointed. Shurely in Gemany we put our brakes under more stress, but still:

Why don't you recommend a brake parts brand that you use on your car?

Jeez... You show us pictures of a crack drilled rotors... We know cracking drilled rotor is always a problem... Even drilled brembo crack. Also saw a blank rotor crack... But we don't know how old and a far along from its life that crack happens.

I for sure haven't have that problem. I replace rotor with pads together. I use to resurface rotor but the place I go to charge way to much for resurfacing them lately.

I'm happy to repost my previous post.

Brembo pads with rotors come quite close to OEM for half the price

Been using Zimmerman blanks on my BMWs for nearly a decade now. Track use and street use. Never had a problem.

OP look at FCP Euro to utilize their LRG program.

It sounds a bit high to me. Thoughts? I think I may have the larger more expensive rotors (2014 335i sport).

Getting a quote from an Indy as well.

What’s “reasonable” if they’re using OEM parts?
I replaced both front and rear with upgraded rotors for less than $400 myself. I bought Power Stop and did install myself but cheap and easy.

Price should be like half of that. Don't use the dealership for that kind of stuff, unless you don't mind spending money, in which case Im assuming you wouldn't be posting here!

This is an interesting post.
For a new BMW owner who bought their first BMW new, how do you go about locating an independent shop that you can trust?

Personally I have used non OEM brake pads and rotors for years with good success. They are wear parts and the installation job is relatively simple. It is one of the few things you can still do on a car and save some money. A good indy shop with parts you buy is fine if you don't want to do it yourself. But if you have time its rewarding to do yourself. That and rear shocks are pretty easy jobs to do. Funny but I have had issues with the brake rotors rusting out on BMW's from not enough use or hard braking. Actually using your brakes occasionally hard is not a bad thing sometimes.

Narrow it down by whether they advertise as being German/European car specialists, then google them to find reviews.

$1400 is almost the cost of M Performance brakes and calipers on ebay. Id say look for a cheaper option or just upgrade. Good luck!
