I get your point but personally I think it's good to read the opinions of others even if you don't always agree with them. Yes that can make it exasperating on occasion but sometimes a point's made that makes you think about and question your own position (which is a good thing IMO!).
+1 on that. The brexit threads were particularly interesting in that respect.

Fair point. I might go back into my ignore list and untick Hooded, I followed his advice last night for everyone else’s sanity.

I’ll probably it leave it a couple more days though.....

They were and there have been others as well. This is why I invariably end-up spitting feathers when the moderators close threads - it smacks of stifling free speech and debate and in principal that's not where we should be going IMO.

I love hearing different points of view. It seems that they arent so keen on the politics thread of my local football teams forum, but I oblige anyway for a bit of sport....

Jesus, talking politics in Chesterfield is a recipe for disaster!

It’s seems a bit odd having a chat forum for the fans though, how are you both keeping?

Opinions is one thing. I'm all for that. But the rest of us being subjected to constant, petty, pathetic bickering that goes on and on and on for page after page and provides nothing of value is another.

I agree. Let it go, you are beginning to go on a bit.

Hopefully I’m on your ignore list so you won’t see this.

Its quite busy on there (nearly as busy as here) but very one sided in opinions. You'd love it, so easy to get a debate going.... and they never let it drop!

good news at least they got fined.

Various sources say Lockdown extended till april 2nd. Ovs the government have yet again made a mess up on vaccines and using lockdown to buy them time. A nice unemployment figure then ready for the new tax year.

I get the feeling you might be slightly anti-establishment.

Not sure there’s any weight behind a vaccine mess up at this stage.

I generally don’t debate politics round here, unless it’s with people who relocated to the area. I remember being in a North East Derbyshire pub, in a fairly well to do area, the day before my brothers wedding a couple of years ago and I was singled out as the only remain voter out of 35 people. I didn’t bring it up. And even I decided it was futile having any discussion on it and kept quiet and drank my pint.

I did suspect you were well linked with the higher echelons of government and policy making, from your previous essays containing detailed analysis of the situation.

2nd April, noted.

Thanks for the insight, ovs.

Wonder if they have to social distance when arresting people of breaking up illegal parties? or in the canteen at work? They are clearly on duty as they are in patrol cars, dont think they get to take them home.... and clearly they need to eat when working so presumably they are using this as a form of works canteen...

As for sources on lockdown till 2nd April, can you share them so we can assess their credibility..?

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, i'm not up to speed on this thread, just revisiting....
If someone had told me that 11 months into the pandemic, the United Kingdom would have the highest Covid death rate in the world, I would never have believed them, would you?

No but then I dont believe we are either. I think how deaths are recorded and reported or not makes comparing official stats very dangerous. On excess deaths versus prior 5 year average, I think we are running about 8 on rate - I'll try and find the link to an FT piece...

ETA this is the link, pinched from the politics section of the football forum....

Excess by country has been tracked by the FT, we are about 8th worst compared to historical averages.
6th by total

I see the only value in the UK Daily Death figures as their use as a measure of the fluctuations in the UK. It's been fairly well publicised that international comparisons are pointless as, not only are different countries using different measures, but in some countries I believe that GP's aren't putting Covid on death certificates, so a large proportion go unrecorded.

It won't stop certain individuals from trying to use them to distort the truth though

This is a bit concerning ...

1 in 8 recovered COVID Hospital patients die within 140 days.

Leicester University studied 47,780 COVID patients who survived their acute coronavirus infection and were discharged from hospital.

They found 29% returned to hospital within 140 days, and 12% per cent died within 140 days.

More details on the original research:
