Used BMW price increase?
Anyone else noticed this? Is this a general used car market thing?
I thought prices came down around new year... Looking at used BMW's online their prices all seem to be around 1-2k higher than I think they should be. Anyone else think the same, or am I just wrong here? |

Recently sold a 2016 (66 Reg) 435D with a massive spec for £500 less than what i paid for it 12 months prior. Specification and service history are king!

Higher prices are driven by shortage of quality dealer stock so it is just a supply & demand issue. You will get more for your car but pay more for the next one.

I noticed it about 6-8 months ago when I was keeping an eye on the F31 340i market with a friend.
Some good choice in the 20-25k bracket on BMW AUC but then become fewer and fewer. Now they're slowly coming back onto BMW AUC at prices 2-3k higher than they were a year ago.

I recently found my old 2013 328i for sale for $800 more than I paid for it, and I personally put 10k miles on it before trade in.
So it's 9 months older with 10k more miles, POST n2x settlement, and still $800 more. Seems like an inflation trend right now.

I'm close to *finally* moving on from the derv (not that there's anything wrong with it, brilliant car tbh), but I'm thinking this price increase across the board might make me wait a few months. |

I think the price increase is only an issue if you buy and sell regularly, or it pushes something beyond your max budget. I paid top dollar for my '15 plate in September but it was at the right time, it was in the condition/mileage I was after and the spec was Christmas tree'd. Could I have got a similar car for a few K less? Maybe, but amortised over 5-10 years £2k is the square root of bugger all per annum so it wasn't a problem. I can see that if you swap in and out of cars every few years it may be a bigger impact!

Used car prices have gone up massively in 2020. Largely down to lack of supply.
Things will level out then drop in 2021 as demand drops and supply returns to normal. |

I mentioned (in another thread) an Autocar article about BMW 3-series being in the top 10 Used Car Sales Charts after the March lockdown ended. Fleet News now predicts softening in used car prices this month, and a further 5-6% drop from February onwards. I'll just illustrate the difference with an example covering the past 12 months. If you had £25k to spend, you would have got: Jan 2020: a 320d MSport (Tech/Vis) 9 months old and 8k on the clock. Dec 2020: 320d MSport (Tech/Vis) 20 months old with 18k on the clock. Sadly for private buyers, dealers are giving only slightly better part-exchange prices. But the dealers are then able to sell on at much higher mark-ups than usual because of the shortage of desirable premium cars for enthusiasts. |

That is generally what i experienced this year , I bought my 335d with under 10k on the clock, paid a little more than I wanted, but to be honest I think I got a good deal (in the current climate)

Some dealerships were also hanging on to stock to stay afloat this year. There was a used approved 435d (16 plate) on 68k miles selling for a shade over 25k. It was massively overpriced by 3k. Even when you factor in the usual profit margin. After a month of being sat on the forecourt someone purchased it at the sticker price!

Yes the prices have gone up. This one massively stood out.
https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/2...9-ff6e2fd1041b You can get one 2 years newer for £4-5k less from another main dealer. |

I'm looking at a 440i GC @ £27k with 27k miles on it, 18 plate, very well specced. I'd argue it's probably about 1-2k over priced. What do you guys think? |

Been there at least four weeks so probably squeeze them on the price. https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/2...c-5a31279608e7

I bought a pre-register 420i Gran Coupe M-Sport in July 2019. It was 2 months old with 20 miles on the clock in Sapphire Black metallic, sports auto with M-Sport plus pack. The RRP was just under £40k (in the cheaper tax bracket). I paid £25,890 from a BMW dealer.
Now it is 20 months old with 11,000 miles on the clock and I can't see anywhere that you can buy a car with a similar deal. They all seem more expensive. |

Good deal on that given it was 2 months old!
I saw similar on 440i’s earlier in the year. Low mileage, ex test mules mostly. I’ve found a car with an excellent spec but unsure whether to wait or not. |
