Israel reporting that the Pfizer vaccine isn’t providing great protection after one dose. As we’re getting vaccines on track and really moving things on, I think it would be good if the government re-thought policy and went back to a tested regime.

Although looking at the numbers from yesterday, there’s been a BIG drop in numbers administered. Just over 200,000, compared to 325,000 on Friday.

I wonder what the reason for that is?

Could it be most NHS staff have had first dose now and ready made candidates aren’t quite as available? More centres open from yesterday, numbers remained quite high over the weekend, so surprised to see such a big drop.

Yeah I was surprised at the numbers - was hoping to see them increasing not decreasing!

Hopefully a blip.

Moving the second dose out to 12 weeks instead of 3 weeks per the trials did seem a leap of faith but, as is often the case with this, we're left with having to trust our scientists. However, if the findings from Israel are correct it does feel like we need to rethink what we're doing. It would be criminal if we're expending all this effort but in effect wasting vaccine by giving lots of first doses that actually don't offer proper protection because we're leaving it too long to give the follow-up second dose.

Personally I'd rather delay having my first jab if it means people in the more vulnerable groups can have their second jab at the time suggested by the vaccine manufacturers.

I just hope they're not chucking it away at the rate that's been reported. If my GP rang and said they'd got some that needs using up, I'd be straight in the car.

Apparently according to a recent survey only 44 per cent of people said they would follow the rules of social distancing and hygiene after vaccination. Gotta love the Brits haven’t you.

Agreed with that. The plan was always to ensure the most vulnerable were protected first. Partial protection before moving on to those less at risk doesn’t seem quite right.

Highest number of vaccines administered in a day in the UK yesterday - 343,163 getting their first dose.

Great news, let's keep it going!

Yes back up again - was concerned at the last few days numbers being so long. Expect that was supply chain driven rather than desire though.

Weekend didn’t worry me too much, I think every weekend will be a bit lower than week days. Monday looked a bit odd, but back on track is good!

That's been my worry recently, the more people that get the vaccine the more difficult it will be for those that haven't yet had it. Some people will simply ignore the rules entirely once they're vaccinated, others will carry on sticking to the rules and the rest are somewhere in the middle. Maybe they just let their guard down a bit, it's only natural, and start doing a few more things they weren't before. That trip to the shops you don't currently make because of the risk, well once you've had the vaccine maybe you're just not quite so cautious anymore.

The hope is that the vaccine reduces your ability to transmit the virus as well, but right now we just don't know for sure. If it doesn't then I can see a tough year coming up as those that have been vaccinated start getting back to normality and those that haven't stay couped up and are potentially unable to go in some places, attend certain events or go on holidays as they don't have a certificate to say they're all fine.

I love attending summer festivals (Download & Bloodstock) and I'm desperate for them to go ahead after being cancelled last year. My worry is that they do go ahead, but only for those who can demonstrate they've been vaccinated and I'm left having to go without again while some of my family and friends are able to attend. I know it seems trivial in the context of the amount of people that are losing their lives, but understandably after a year of this you're trying to find something good to look forward to again.

320,874 additional vaccine doses registered in England yesterday (318,151 1st doses, 2,723 2nd doses)

24,962 in Scotland (1st doses only)
14,645 in Wales

We're still awaiting full UK figures for the day, but this means the number of jabs administered over the past seven days has been more than 2 million. Ahead of target!

Good news - I think the previous day was c347k for the UK so definitely running at a decent speed again.

Really hope the weekends don't slow down - this should be running 7 days a week full speed.

It would be nice. But even with all the volunteers we can get, I think some centres won’t have quite as many staff, and you probably won’t get same take up.

If weekends can still deliver 80% of a weekday I think that would be a great result.

367k yesterday.

Really hope they can keep increasing it - the sooner we get everyone jabbed the sooner we can get back to normal!

Not a chance of going fully back to normal especially only on the premise that every uk citizen has had a jab.

Where are you guys accessing the vaccination numbers from? The Gov website link I had that showed it for the first week or so doesn't seem to list vaccination numbers anymore, just patients admitted to hospital and patients on ventilation.

Agree. We are in the same boat across the pond. My feeling is that opening up will be driven by the numbers of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. When numbers go down, things will open up; if in turn numbers go up, well then things may close. This will certainly be wrapped around the politics of the country. My hope is that these mutations don't screw us and lesson the efficacy of the vaccine. The statistics of the situation is that the more we allow unchecked replication of the virus, the greater the chance for mutations to occur which in turn equates to a great chance of an escape mutant developing. The Brazilian mutant virus is getting some attention right now because of that......but we will have to see. So far vaccines seem to work well for the UK B.1.1.7 virus.
