Ralph335 Thankfully it warmed up today (36) so I finally switched off. (was getting boring and I was even starting to think negatively: trading for a 5 series!) Had to kill that thought haha

Do you think the camera is really monitored? Park nearby and just run an extension cord over to the outlet. That way you aren't blocking the car wash bay.
I used to use ONR in my spot, before the car wash was operational, and got yelled at by the security, so yeah, they do patrol and check the cameras, lol.

The wash spot is tucked away among other people's spots, so there's not a way to access that outlet without blocking people, unless you happen to be the owner of the spot next to the wash spot.

Why would security care if you’re futzing with your car in your own spot?

I've been getting this error on my 2016 340 xDrive w/16k miles on it. It also shuts down anything that uses the battery when i turn my car OFF such as the idrive, headlights, and even the ceiling lights!

I drove 120 miles today over the course of 5 hours and it still gave me a low battery message every time i started the car telling me to drive the car more. 120 miles is a long drive. Not sure how much more I need to drive it, but tomorrow, i'll be driving 125 miles each way to go skiing. Hopefully this is not an issue after.

A full charge might take 12 miles, it certainly won't take 120. Did it do this the other day when the temperatures hit 50? Or only when it's down below 15?

Wow those guys mean business!
My apartment garage doesnt seem to care. I've ONRed my car numerous times in my spot with no complaints from security. I've even seen people spray paint their wheels up on the upper floors.

I thought you need to put the fob near the steering column if the battery is dead. The key is for the door and glove box isn't it?

You are correct, please substitute "on the steering column" for "in the steering column" and dam, can't put anything past this crowd. I guess I'd better spend some time and .

I had this problem of a battery discharge warning on my 2015 F30 328xi. The local dealer claims they reprogrammed the system so that it reduced the tolerance level before it would report the message. Long and the short of it is it did not work, revisited the issue with the dealer recently and the response was basically you will have to live with it as no fix from BMW is forthcoming. This issue and other issues (plastic timing guide prone to breaking) resulted in me getting rid of the vehicle before the warranty expired..............problems solved, permanently.

Notice the locations of all those reporting the issue. Conspicuously absent are places like Florida, Alabama, Louisiana. It's a cold weather thing, and all it takes to be sure that you're never left out in the cold, as it were, is to use a battery maintainer. If that's beyond your skill set put a piece of black tape over the dash warning, get on with your life.

Update: After a 250 mile trip the following day, the message went away.

Here's a weird update: I got the message back, exactly once. After driving to a friend's place on the other side of the suburb (round trip about 50kms), leave my car outside till night, then drive back home. Got the message when turning off the car...

...but after driving a super short trip the next morning to the grocery store, no messages whatsoever. Even for the past week I've been leaving my car cold outside the train station for the whole day, still nothing.

Still scratching my head over this one.

Was there a significant difference in the outside temperature on the days you got the warning than when you did not get it?

edit: I'm wondering if the outside temp is given more "weight" than the batteries actual State of Charge in the algorithm used to trigger the warning.

Because legally you don't own the spot when you own a condo/apartment. What you have is exclusive use to it, but it's part of the building's shared facilities and it's bound by the condo corporation's rules. Same goes for your unit's balcony... that's the key difference between a freehold and an apartment.

So.... more battery weirdness.

Was working from home on Thursday, didn't drive to the train station until Friday, car was parked underground. When I got to the train station on Friday, charge battery warning came back. Figured nothing I can do, left it there all day at -12C.

When I returned, I drove from the train station to the grocery store a block away... everything was normal again, no warning.

Can't explain that... aside from battery getting old and that overnight drain a while back nearly killing it.

No weirdness, warnings are to be expected in cold weather. If you get them when it's warm you've got a problem.

That part I get, but it's in this case when parked in the (relatively) warmer underground garage where it threw the error.

Either way I parked all night outside again covered in snow, still no warning. Maybe I'll just do a battery test the next oil change.

You can do a battery test every time you get into the car, just plug one of these into your auxiliary outlet:

Well what I really meant was get it checked up after going on a charger for a few months when it goes into Summer storage... maybe the extended recharging will fix it, lol.

Going on a charger for a few months won't have any more effect than a few hours, depending on the charger capacity. If you're putting the car up for the summer then having a maintainer on it is a good idea, as there's always drain on the battery.
