Dual exhaust axle back for 320i

Thinking of removing my single exhaust axle back and putting in a dual exhaust.

Couple questions:

1. What's a top three popular brand of hat produces more of a lower/deeper sound?
2. Best price for product?
3. Yes, I'm trying to save some cash and wanted to know if I could still use the stock cat back exhaust and marrying it to the axle back dual exhaust?

Thanks in advance.

1. GT Haus ($2K)
2. AWE quad ($1,400)
3. Muffler Delete to Quad tips ($350, Sounds the same as GT Haus and beefy tone)

I am going with number 3 and leaving the resonator in. I drove a friends car with this setup and a 6 speed just like mine. To me, it was the better sound without spending $1400 on the AWE that I want. Cabin noise is very mild you can hear there is a exhaust back there but it's not like what people are saying with is being so exaggerated and loud that you cannot speak to someone. It's maybe 25% louder in the cabin. Firsthand driving, doesn't sound any louder than a Subaru STI inside the cabin and outside is not too loud either and I did not experience much drone, it's very low at best and most aftermarket exhaust will give you a slight drone to remind you there is a exhaust in the system. Most people will say it drones like crazy and that is not true, I also think those people who have heard it or driven are the ones that probably removed the resonator in which case YES, that will cause a lot of drone in the car and are also the ones that just do not want a louder exhaust. Best I can describe the muffler delete on our cars is close to the same loudness as a stock M3 when under throttle.

Cheers chaps. Last question:

Hard to see exactly in the pic, but that subsection of my lower bumper appears that it can be removed, but I haven't checked to see if it can be. What I'm wondering, if it is removable, can I buy a new diffuser to swap into that same location for the dual exhaust? Thanks in advance as always.

NO on that bumper the section is molded and not removable. You will need to get the AWE exhaust template to cut the bumper. Since you have only 1 exhaust opening on the left side you will need to flip the template and attach it to the left side to make a opening for daul tips. The template is flexible and can be reversed to fit on both side. Than just get the dremel out.

Thanks bud, so I can simply cut into it. At a later date I'll prolly get a new bumper/diffuser then, but for now...

Yup, it's just plastic. To have a cleaner cut, use tape, than use a sanding bit on the dremal to clean it up and debur it.

Hmm, tbh didn't even think about a muffler delete and that has me intrigued now. Going from single exit tip to quad dual, I'm going to need to price that out but this route is clearly more cost effective.

[Edit] Actally I'm thinking dual exit but not quad. I have the Akrapovic tip already, so thinking I'll order another and run them both instead.

What I did was do a 435i muffler conversion to my 428i and have the valve welded to stay open in both comfort and eco mode :P

Why wouldn't you just unplug the valve rather than weld it??

My thoughts as well...

I just turned mine to always open with the BM3 and have the option to change whenever I like.

It was closed so the only way I could get it to stay open even without unplugging it was to weld it

I understand it was closed but the solution is to put it in sport, let it open up and then unplug the electrical connection. There is no CEL or other effects.

Well, now you know for next time. On any future cars, always look up the "Golf-Tee mod" and someone has usually found the best way to keep the valve open.

Just throwing this out there as I've been on the hunt for the 75mm to 80mm band clamp and finally found it today. (I ordered the 335i megan racing exhaust for my 328i).

Just ordered it today, its not through Amazon but a 3rd party seller. Can't input on fitment and shipping time yet.

There's 3 sizes on that listing. The 76mm to 80mm is what I ordered. Its 1mm larger but that shouldn't be a problem.
