BMW Wireless Phone Charger + iPhoneX
The iPhone X fits perfectly in the charger, however it barely charges. A lot of heat is being dissipated, the phone gets warm, but even when in idle (not used for Apple Carplay or anything else) - it takes ages to charge a few percent.
Do you share the same experience and has BMW been contacted? Are there any alternatives out there? P.s. of course I have tried with and without a phone case... didn't notice much of a difference in charging performance.

Doesn’t wirelessly charging on iPhones generally suck anyway?

No.
Have a wireless charger at home - works great, fast charging, limited heat. The BMW one is not even close to half the performance.

Not really. It was greatly improved by iOS11 I believe and is not much slower at all in comparison to a wired charging. Given that you have a proper wireless charger that is.
I did not read anything about improved wireless charging capability on XS. But back to the original question....?

Have the same issue. Very little charging, a lot of heat. I gave up on using the wireless charging in the car at all, because I am concerned that generating so much heat in an enclosed space (armrest) could be very bad for the phone.

I wouldn't be concerned about the phone - it stops charging as soon as a certain temperature threshold is reached. Brightness (when used) is then also reduced. It has its protective mechanisms and it is not much different than using your phone on the beach in a hot summer day
But the lack of charging is ridiculous... Is there a point and way to contact BMW about that... individually or collectively?

Exact same experience here. Very little to no charging happening. I've actually had my iPhone X completely shut itself off twice while wireless charging because it was so hot. Scared me the first time it happened because my Apple CarPlay glitched out and the whole system was acting really weird.
I would love if someone contact Bmw about this because the unit is literally 100% useless and a scam to have them charge for it. Mine overheats in less than an hour while only gaining maybe 10%. If we bought a wireless charger that worked like that at any store they would quickly recall it and refund everyone's money.

Now that Waze is on CarPlay, I finally used my OEM wireless charger in the armrest of my LCI F31. My commute for work is about 1h20m one way. Once I arrived at my destination, and took my phone out of the arm rest, it was very warm and the charge level never moved up or down. I am going back to USB charging. Basic BMW technology FTL!

Here is my setup for iPhone X, Waze and CarPlay. Works well but phone get warm (not hot). It is not BMW OEM but whole cost was less than $30.
My phone has the Apple silicon case. It does not slide or move in my daily driving. |

Easy and straight forward solution but far from elegant....
There must be a better arm-Rest solution.

I have galaxy s9 (no plus) and the phone fits fine in the built-in cradle with or without a case. It seems to charge quickly.

I'm thinking - could it be an idea to disassemble the charger and see what's inside and maybe how to improve it? (e.g. location of spools, replacement of spools, etc.)?
Hmm: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=953073
