Cycling World Land Speed Record
A US woman, Denise Mueller-Korenek, has broken the record by hitting (near as dammit) 184mph.
Sounds incredible but IMO the means of achieving it make it pointless : she was towed to 100mph (understandable, given the tall gearing required) but then was basically in the near-contact slipstream of the dragster being driven in front of her. To all intents and purposes she was cycling in a void, with little or no frontal air pressure to overcome. Yes there would be some rolling resistance from the salt flats, but it seems like a pretty pointless record to me. Thoughts ?

In the spectrum of pointless records I suspect that there are many others that I might raise an eyebrow at before this one. Having said that, the wheel driven (car) record has changed hands a few times this year, and is of far more interest to me personally. Team Vesco are currently on top at 482mph.
