How is it with xdrive on? I'm using xdelete right now so obviously it'll be fun as hell in RWD but i'm curious to how to how it acts in AWD

Doesn't interfere, much less understeer. Everything else about the suspension and drivetrain is stock. Rear is much more predictable under power. Pulling off from lights definitely puts the onus on your tires.

I had very little time with it on summer tires, and out of the break in period, before having to put dedicated winters on.

Will it only lockup in sport+? I'm guessing in every other mode DTC exhibits mostly the same behavior

It's mechanical so there's no interfacing with any of that. No coding possible or necessary.

Lock up in every mode.

I understand that but if I'm in sport DTC will cut power when there's loss of traction, so then both wheels would immediately lock up but then unlock as throttle dies down ?

No, since there is no coding you never reach the amount of slip to trigger any intervention in the rear.

My tech did it for me on his shift in like 45 mins lol, even without BMW's tool. And man I've barely gotten to push it but it feels sooo different in how the power is put down, just amazing. Can't wait to push it hard and especially once I turn xDrive back on

Nice to hear. I have yet to turn off xdrive and it's still pretty apparent something is happening back there.

Sorry to revive old thread but need some help on how to remove the prop shaft.

I also have a leak in my diff on one shaft and I managed to pop the half shaft out using pry bar but im struggling with the 50mm nut on the propshaft. I guess the easiest option would be to undo the three bolts holding the propshaft and just lower the diff then but BMW says no to do it as it will upset the propshaft balancing. The 50mm sunk nut is unbelievable tight and I dont know how to lock the shaft to get a good grip at it.

Thanks

Use the correct tools! A shop tried to rig my buddy's install and destroyed his LSD. It takes a 2-3 foot handle to get enough torque on that big driveshaft nut.

An experienced dealer or specialty shop charges about $560 to swap an F3x differential.

The E-Series were a lot easier because driveshafts had a bolted flange that was easy to do. F-Series has circlips that fit into a groove to hold it onto the differential. That's why the special tools are needed. F-Series is not very old so not many mechanics are experienced swapping the differential.

So they say that they can do it, assuming that it's easy like the E-Series. Then they get the car up on their lift and say "Oh, sh*t!" They don't have the correct tools so they try to rig it and risk buggering it up.

Don't let anyone do your F-Series differential without questioning them about their F-Series experience and having them show you the tools

BMW still makes M Performance Limited Slip Differentials for a variety of models with specific transmissions. It's only the one that has been discontinued and is now difficult to find.

So, what is everyone doing that wants an LSD for a 335i/435i with an automatic?

There are a few companies where you can get one built to order with various types of internals depending on what type of LSD you want and how aggressive you want it to be. Forgot the main company, it was linked in one of the threads.

The two LSD's that I've heard mentioned are Quaife and M Factory but I know nothing at all about them.

I'll probably end up with a Wavetrac unit.
