That is a bit odd with the lip. I'd say you need a wheel alignment since that tire is dragging.

If you are foolish like me, you pretend it's fine, and rotate your tires a bunch of times to tarnish the rest of them when they rotate into that corner of the car.

I'd say the band around the circumference near the outer edge of the tyre is an outcome of the runflat tyre construction (the really stiff sidewall). That plus the fact the tyre tread depth looks low across the mid point of the tyre tells me it's close to being at end of life anyway.

If the inner edge is similarly low on the edge, then tyre pressures probably haven't been high enough. However, if the inner edge is all good then wheel alignment comes to the fore as a probable cause.

Ask here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=423

Also, the angle of the picture and the dirt and water make it difficult to see the problem.

What tyre pressure do you run them at and is that pressure spot on with the sticker on the door jamb?

tyre pressures are spot on with door jamb for tyre size.
The other front tyre was replaced as it got sliced by s car wash guide rail last year so cannot compare if symmetrical wear.

Is it just that one tyre? Looks like a fault with the tyre to me, can’t understand how you’d end up with a ridge like that.

It could be as Techno 9000 said, that it's where the internal RTF sidewall is attached to the tread section. It would take an expert on the construction of that tire to verify the theory.

That's not a worn out tire, the center bands are no where near the wear bars. I'm telling you, check your alignment. That wheel is tweaked inwards (hit a curb stop most likely) and it's dragging. That's why it's bald on the outer block.

To me it looks like the tire is rolling up on the sidewall. I assume you drive at the limit sometimes. My F 30 with adaptive suspension does the same thing. And it has 19s with a smaller sidewall With RFs. Giant roll bars might help. Alignment won't fix my issue.

It isn't. There's a distinct ridge an inch or so into the tread. No alignment issue would explain that.

Agree.

I'd say it was a tire manufacturing issue. I expect the rubber compound is harder on that 'ridge' than the rest of the tread block.

That's where the RFT construction could be the cause. If that's the case I doubt the OPs tire would be an isolated incident.

I took the opportunity to get a hunter wheel alignment done as the car hadn't had one in 3years. No idea if this has any bearing overall. The affected tyre is front right.

I think it's a heavy car being driven hard. Looks like normal edge wear from hard cornering.

Do you love on ramps?

none of us will die wondering....

here is the email back from blackcircles customer service

Thank you for your email. I tried to call you but I was unable to reach you. I am sorry to hear of the issue you encountered with your tyre. I spoke to Calvin at ATS Euromaster - Glasgow and he confirmed he has the tyre that was removed during fitting today. I will arrange for the tyre to be collected from ATS Euromaster - Glasgow and arrange for the tyre to be inspected by Dunlop. An inspection can take up to 12 weeks based on the manufacturer and should a defect be found you would receive a credit based on the life of the tyre.

Can you confirm you are happy for the tyre to be sent for an inspection?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

i will update with outcome once I know.

To be clear what do you think is defective......the raised ridge on each tread block, or the rounded tire edge with the rough surface?
The rough surface is not a defect it is cornering wear.
My front OEM Bridgestone S001's have this particularly after a 20 minute track session at a SCCA HPDE event. It seems to be characteristic of high performance tires with soft rubber, incredible grip and poor tire life.
If you raise front tire pressures to 40 you can reduce this cornering wear and might get another 10k miles from those tires.
