Think I answered my own question. Since the m550d pump alone is a solution to the fueling problem it means flow is not the problem, its pressure. The N57 3lt runs 2000 bar and seems the N57s (m550d) runs 2200 bar. I have no idea what the max flow the low pressure pump runs at but that's what would be the limit, if it runs out of flow there would be pressure drops so upgrade would work in that case.

I read that you can easily run a cheap CP3 HP pump in line with stock HP pump and you can get the pressures required and some more. 2 pumps adds high reliability to the systems apparently as well. Still trying to work out how to wire it. It runs off the aux belt.

You already have a CP4.2, and a lift pump.

The ecu program regulates how much pressure runs in the system. Adding anything like that to try to raise pressure will throw codes. A proper tuner can make it all run better. Even if you install a higher pressure rating pump, you'll still need a very good tuner to make it work right. It's not plug and play at all.

Do you know if the m550d pump needs a new tune to make it work or could I fit it and drive it to get it tuned?

For a normal calm drive it would probably be ok. Any large pressure discrepancies will put you in limp mode.

Does anyone know if the n57 435d needs the transmission removed to fit a new HPFP? BMW instructions advise you need to but i really dont want to have to do that since its a big job!

Thanks

No body know? If i look at the n47 it shows it can be done engine in so it must have more room at the back which makes sense of course.

Here is an image where you can see the cap for the HPFP:

I wonder if you can reach up somehow from the side of the transmission or even cut an access hole in the firewall making sure it sealed up when i cover it again.
