Stage 2 340i, What motor oil are we using?

I feel like I'm stuck trying to decide. A large part of me wants to just go with the manufacturers recommendation but they obviously wouldn't recommend I modify the car.

The other part of me wants to go with Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme SAE 5W-40 Synthetic Engine Oil since it's thicker and I'm going to be pushing my car harder.

If I'm doing oil changes every 5k miles how much could it matter.
