I don't know why so many have a problem with bimmercat, I used it again just now, no problem.

They are useful when shopping for a car especially if the seller is short on details/photos etc. Not practical to email BMW for car specs, car may be gone by the time you get results.

Anyone ever figure out what happened with mdecoder? It has worked for me once in the last month, but only once.

I've been looking for a certain spec'd out 2017/18 F30 for 6 months or more. For the first couple of months I could use Mdecoder without any problems for 330i, 328d and 340i inquiries. Then about 6-8 weeks ago the 330i and 328d models wouldn't work but I could still get the 340i inquiries to appear.

Finally I just bit the bullet and paid for 100 of the decodes. My main beef, other than having to pay, was the results used to be organized into several groups (multimedia, comfort, etc.) and the newer results are scattered in such a way that it would take me more than a couple of minutes to find all the options.

I just this moment used bimmercat again, no problem. Whatever is causing some to have a problem with it must be on their end. I know from experience with an issue on my own website that the Chrome browser for one regularly throws up roadblocks for no apparent reason.

Cookies seem to be a problem.
Go to browser settings and setup decoder site to "never allow cookies".
Note that some sites now want all 17 digits of VIN.

Whatever the issue is, it's something that changed on the server side. For years, I could search as many Vins as I wanted without issue. Then this year mdecoder got flaky. A quick Google search brought up quite a few posts of others with the same problem. I can't imagine everyone changed their browser to cause the problem.

Also, I've had the issue on multiple browsers, on multiple devices, Firefox, Chrome, Samsung phone browser, internet explorer or whatever they call it now.

Sad to lose mDecoder. It helped me find more than one car with features I wanted. It was an amazing tool.
If they are going to charge for Vin lookup, they need to at least make it as functional as it used to be.
