That's about right based on my experience.

Hey all, thanks for ALL the awesome feedback and advice. I'm taking it to two local shops this week for a quote and will probably have my Insurance company cover it - I've got a $500 deductible. Will report back with quotes!

In the end, $2700 to replace the front bumper and repair the fender dent.

I wasn't far out then with my 3K estimate, crazy really for what's involved.

That seems like a lot to be honest. You're better off buying a used bumper from a member here and shopping around different body shops to see how much it would be to paint install, and fix the fender. Painting the bumper, install, and blending with your fenders and hood really shouldn't cost more than $800 max.

Not if his deductible is low

Would his insurance go up if he has them cover it?

The rubber shell at least. There's little they can do to repair those things.

Maybe. OP doesn't have PDC or 360 cameras, so he's probably okay.

I had a nightmare experience with a very good local body shop when I hit an "alligator" (truck tire retread that came loose on the road). It went under the car and tore up both front & rear bumper covers.

I took it back four times because the PDC kept beeping when there was nothing around, making the PDC worthless (and driving me crazy because PDC activates any time the car is in reverse).

They finally gave up and paid the dealer to fix it. Since I pay the same insurance deductible no matter where I go, it's the dealer for me from now on.
