I do it myself, even though I hate doing it. As far as I have been able to determine, the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States does not feature a trustworthy car wash.

Rare occasion gas station touchless that I trust. Otherwise two bucket system, foam gun and the like for a regular wash.

Wash myself with pressure washer and shampoo. 1 time a week if it rains. If the week does not rain i wash once every 2 weeks
In winter time i use touchless car wash to remove salt. But just the basic pressure wash no soap and dry. There chemicals will rip my sealant off Last edited by Dan_335i; 06-17-2014 at 07:14 PM.. |

What a dumb poll. You're missing some of the most important options, like a dedicated touchless car wash. I live in an apartment that forbids washing cars on property. No choice but to find another method. Where's the coin-operated option? The touch less dedicated option? Other full-service car washes? Geez.

I love washing and detailing my car. It's like therapy to me.

Gas station drive through car wash. Usually it's not fully dried, so I ask the attendant inside for a towel and then I thoroughly dry the wheels and the rest of the car.

^^^This.
Although, I must say, I usually take it to a low/soft touch car wash for the rinse off, then do the finishing touches (interior, tires, rims etc.) on my own. They do a decent job, but like I said, I enjoy detailing the car, and plus, THEY'LL never get it as perfect as I do...

Sometimes I can't stand how dirty my car is when the hand wash places are closed. Then I go to no touch, no track gas station wash. After this, I use my own kits in my tiny dark apartment garage space to fix up the imperfect spots. The poll is meant to be broad. Coin wash is doing it yourself. Touch less is automatic wash. You can be as detailed as you'd like about your methods in the thread. Last edited by bonabono; 06-17-2014 at 08:02 PM.. |

I'll opt for the therapy too.
Clean the car early in the morning, so I have the rest of the day off to admire the final result.

ALWAYS hand wash with Goits car wax wash, Groits wash bucket w/ bottom strainers to keep dirt from bottom of bucket clinging to the Groits wash mitt. Only was in back and forth motion from front to rear, NEVER in circle movements.
Hand towl dry with Groits. |

Touchless carwash once a week at the car wash my family owns so I know the chemicals aren't too harsh or low quality. Hand wash and wax every two-four weeks. Clay bar and liquid polish every 6 months.

I NEVER use gas-station car washes; I have used higher-tier automated drive-through washes, both touchless and those that use chamois-like brushes (but never the nylon-bristle ones). Lately I've been using the pressure-wash coin-op car wash nearest my home, as I like to get the bugs out of the radiators/intercooler and the dust out of the engine compartment. Good for blasting brake dust off the wheels and calipers too. I always hand-dry with one of those synthetic chamois that don't scratch and I follow that with a good rubdown with Griot's SpeedShine detailer.

Myself since short of the $60 hand wash guys, nobody does the job up to my standards.
I live in a condo so I go to the local coin-operated bay in Hackensack and pressure wash the rims and rinse down the paint thoroughly. Then i drive home and employ Garry Dean’s rinse-less wash method. I do this at least once a week; usually Saturday after breakfast.
