This can impact power delivery, low rpm driveability, and wonky and tinny/farty sounding exhaust noise created within the larger portion of the DP can. With some sort of cats in place, the pressure differential (i.e., backpressure) helps align the exhaust pulses has they go through the varying shaped pipes with little reverberation. The ideal setup would be a graduated straight pipe design like the aftermarket uses.

At least it looks stock and there should still be some power gained assuming the DME doesn't go into some sort of power protective mode when getting odd O2 sensor readings.
I'm an automation engineer, I design control for large turbines and pump VFDs. I think the turbulent flow is not a big deal compare to the reduction in restrictive flow, the burble/farty sound is a feature I would want. Our BMWs run rich on cold starts, any excess unburnt fuel can ignite in a 6" empty can now, which I prefer, think about it, do you want an explosion in a 6" can or 3" pipe? Which is less harmful to the resonator and muffler? Also, I've driven the car now, not only does it not go in limp mode, the CEL didn't even trip. Its driving like nothing happen, except the quicker acceleration I can feel under my ass, and a louder blow off valve, nothings else changed.

Yes please, can you stuff it with another turbo?

To be honest, I feel quite accomplished to get this done myself, initially I wanted to do it at a muffler shop, but they gave me so many excuses, "dont have BMW sockets, dont know how hard the cat is to take out, have to charge extra" etc. So I said " Its doable, there are many youtube vids for it, its not that hard" and they said " If its so easy, why don't you do it yourself?" and thats the moment I thought "You know what? challenge accepted."

Good job. I plan on doing the same thing later this year, but enjoying stock + stage 1 flash for now.

Wouldn't blue smoke be from worn piston rings and/or leaky valve seals? Not a gasket?

Ya you're right, main one is worn out engine, but there's quite a few reasons, I just said it as a general statement that this isn't happening on my car.

Anyway, I drove to do some errands and drove to my parents house for dinner, then drove home... still no CEL so my faith as a defouler believer is growing strong

Does anyone know the proper way to do a transmission adaption reset on our auto box ZF8? After this cat delete, my car seems to hold its gears longer, I tried ECO PRO, comfort and sport+, they all held gears for some reason and refuse to shift up, at very light throttle, my car in eco pro always shifted at 2.1k or 2.2k, now it hold the gear to almost 3k. So I want to do a throttle reset, I searched and people have said turn car on, hold gas for 30 seconds, turn car off, wait 2 mins then turn on, but many have said this did not work, does anyone actually know the proper way to reset our transmission shift points ? I'm going to look into bimmercode expert mode to see if I can code the reset there, any help is appreciated. Thanks !

P.S: I went for a "spirited drive" tonight, and there's still no CEL. The new acceleration is fun and worth it. It's just the transmission now goes "wtf, car feels different, I'm lost! When do I shift?"

Sometimes either disconnecting the battery for a while or just doing a fault code reset with a code reader can reset adaptations/trims. Even if you don't have any codes it's worth a shot.

Their lungs fill with fluid and they slowly suffocate because they cannot get enough oxygen to live. There is only so much that that oxygen machines can do. The process of draining the lungs is very painful and you can see the look of terror in their eyes when they see the nurse bring the apparatus over to drain their lungs a bit. The drip from their lungs, for the smokers, looks just like black coffee. It drains for weeks and still looks the same dark colour. Imagine what tobacco has done to their lungs.
After a few weeks of misery they die, they all die. You cannot live if you cannot breathe.

It's a sad reflection on humanity that the proverbial light only comes on when it affects them directly or a loved one.

Instead go spend an evening or two in an Emergency Ward. Watch the broken bodies of young men and women being brought in. The carnage from our streets. The ones who also believed "it will never happen to me." Watch the fear in their eyes as they realize they are not going to make it even though the nurses say otherwise, to calm their fears. "You are going to be fine, just relax." knowing they will be dead in a few minutes or hours. Nurses and doctors discreetly wipe tears from their own eyes, another wasted human life.
Every time I read this I hear violins. wtf?

I'll give this a shot but if anyone has a more concrete way of doing it, please let me know

Scrap yard isn't in the game of handling BMW cats. They treat a 1996 Chevy Cavalier and 2015 BMW 328i cat the same. We both know that a "working, not failed" 2015 BMW cat is going to be more than a NEW Cavalier unit - scrapper doesn't care he wants the recycle value.

Look on ebay at "completed sales" - $180 - $450+ USD for working catalytic converters for 328/330/335/340. Its easy to find out - the data is there.

Yeah man - you can get a 5.3L LS truck engine for $100 from a U-Pull-It scrap yard too you just need to go lay in the dirt and deal with it. That's not the point. Look on eBay for "Completed Sales" - this is 2019, the world of analytics - you're an automation engineer simple scripts out there to inventory all of CL, eBay, etc., all in one pane of glass. Point is, it took me all of 20 secs to go on eBay and list you a $300+ used cat on eBay that was purchased 20 days ago. There are more than that.

You can literally buy an aftermarket unit with the money you would have got for your stocker. It sounds like this is your first time doing this catalytic thing by your opening post - I've been working on BMWs for about 15 years. I don't care how common a 3-series is, the cat lists for an insane MSRP new and thus the use market is expensive, too. That's how economics works.

Actually you don't, all the parts have been removed and are taken off the shelf in the yard shop I been to. But I do see your point that I could sell the stock DP and bought an aftermarket catless, probably still with change left over. Alwell, it was my choice, atleast I won't have fitment issues going with a cheaper aftermarket catless. Plus the process of going through the pain of doing myself, I plan to work on this car myself too so this was a good experience.

For sure - I wouldn't recommend anything but AR or ER for a downpipe, but still ~$400 - 450ish and I swear you could pull $350 - 400 for that used catalytic on eBay/CL. It's just a shame to see the stocker get poked out - wait 3 years when people are hitting 100-150k on their cars and looking to buy new stock cats for like $1800

as long as you don't have emissions to pass, I saved mine to throw on when that time comes especially because a used catless can go as low as $150-$175 (avg. $200). and even though they offered you $40 for your dp, how much do they actually sell them for? not $40

and just curious, uhhh what exactly were you searching for on ebay when you found turd in a box? smh... : ))

I'm gutting mine because rather than paying for a catless pipe and taking a loss i can easily buy a used one for less than $200 down the road to replace it (if i even ever need to). The 1 completed listing and 5 sale adds are from dealers that don't mind reposting 30day buy it now ads over and over until it sells. That's probably the same reason a local has relisted his multiple times on our facebook marketplace waiting for someone to buy it for $400. Check the classifieds on here and you'll see.

Again, where I live, there are no emission inspections, or else I would never do this. (see 1st page posts). I didn't search for box of turd on ebay lol, i saw it from a youtube video "weirdest sh*t you can find on ebay"
