I would pay to get rid of the ASD if I had it.
I passed cards in the spokes phase a few years ago.
Me to. I would want to rip this stuff out.

It doesn't though. Thats why many (myself included) don't like it. It IS fake.

I'm sure this will kill a person lol. Exhaust fumes in the cabin.
No, you get sound from the intake. Assuming we talking about an actual pipe you are basically just transferring air induced vibrations from the intake manifold and bringing them into the cabin. Think of it like those "telephones" made of two cups and some string. You know, the ones that kids play with. Its a little different, but its the same basic principle.

Not a fan of fake stereo sounds but this is a very impressive DIY. Well done.

Anyone know if this will work with HU_CIC or are there signals coming from the NBT to the ASD that are absent with CIC?

I know BMW is not the only ones using this active sound thing, but I wonder if they could not have spend more time and effort to tune the exhaust properly without the need for "active sound"? The new AMG C63 sounds wonderful, with no help from the speakers, and it's exhaust also have a pair of turbo chargers. Is it that those AMG engineers work harder on their exhaust sound? Is it that BMW just take the easy way out?

Why in the world would you waste your time and money doing this?? Why don't you mod the car physically to make it sound better?

Because there is no mod you can put on the N20 that will give it the same sound as the ASD.

I've read that if you have the HK stereo upgrade, you can unplug the cable from the ASD and it will not affect the stereo....

Not sure bout warranty.

2014-2015 528 F10 has ASD so I think retrofit should work on 535 F10.

ASD was standard in the 2014 USA F10.

You may already have it in your Canadian F10.

+1

Why does the F-type and AMG C3 sound so amazing but BMW have to pump fake noise through the speakers? Was BMW lazy?

Nice job on the mod though.

It's just a matter of displacement. In the case of a C63, you're comparing a V8 to a straight 6. A V8 will always sound better unless it was manufactured in a barn.

There's only so much acoustic noise to work with in a 3.0 6-cylinder. Yes, the F80 sounds great (for a 6 cylinder). Does it sound better than the S54 in E46 M3? Not really...

Hi, when you say I should already have it in my f10, does that mean the hardware is in my car ready to be configured or do you mean that it is actively working? Because I definately do not hear fake noise in my cabin as compared to a m235i.

Wondering this also. Does it get its signal from the most bus?

There has to be some communication between this and like the ecu. To detect load and throttle position, or rpm. So it knows how loud to make it sound..?

There is nothing to configure... it is either standard or not. ASD is not optional equipment at least in the USA.

The first page on this thread clearly shows a CAN bus connection.

The M5 uses a turbo 4.4 V8, and BMW still use active sound on the M5. How do you explain that? The C63 is 4.0 V8, no sound enhancement, and it sounds fabulous! BMW's engineers are either incompetent, or lazy. I think its the former.

I think the V8 in the M5 sounds pretty good without ASD. The ASD just makes it sound even better by filling in frequencies that are filtered by the turbos.

If you put ASD on the C63 it might sounds even better
