Is the problem with pdc button fixed by following Axi$ advice?

I just want to start the installation on my wife F20 and I want to follow the official instructions which says something else.

Thanks,
Seb.

Just about to do this retrofit.
Can anybody confirm the pdc switch wiring.

Is it pin 2 to pin 6 on icm, pin 1 to pin 28 on icm?
I can now confirm the above is correct.

Thanks

The information about the pins is not entirely correct as listed. Per the instruction PDF in the OP, a wire must be run from Pin 2 of the center console switch to Pin 6 of the ICM harness. If you do not have PDC or cameras, you "should" not have a wire in Pin 2 of the center console already. For reference, Pin 2 is the spot next to the existing Purple w/ White stripe Wire in the connector.

When you order the kit, you receive a new blue connector(like the one already in the center console switch in the car now) that has 2 wires, one in Pin 1 and one in Pin 2. It is correct that Pin 1 would go to Pin 28 on the ICM, however, this is only if you are installing a switch with the Side/Top Camera Button. For just the Front/Rear PDC and/or Rear Camera, you only need to take the yellow/blue wire out of the new connector, install one end in Pin 2 on the center console side, and run the wire down to the ICM and connect it to Pin 6.

This worked for me in my retrofitting of the Front/Rear PDC and Rear Camera, if anyone has any other questions, please feel free to ask!

@roxxor: thank you for your input on this.
Basically, based on your statement, if you have to install front and/or back PDC, the information about the pins is actually correct described in the instruction PDF, having connected the PIN2 from central console with PIN6 from ICM, corect?

Indeed it is correct. OP mentioned his already had a pin in slot 2, which seems unusual. This is probably what led to the confusion with his not working, since he never connected the wire to the icm pin6

Yesterday I have finished the front PDC installation on my wife's car.
When it comes to central console, indeed, there is already connected PIN 2 on the central console. When I have seen this I decided to leave it as it is becasue I wasn't able to find the ICM A78.
For the moment, I haven't managed yet to code the car in order to notify it about the front PDC sensors existance. I hope next week I will find someone to do it.

Do you think it will work as it is, or I really need to connect PIN1 to another PIN from the ICM A78.

Do you know where exactly is located the ICM A78? I have tried to find pictures on the internet, but no luck so far.

Many thanks in advance for your suppport on this.

ICm location

The icm is under the centre consul.
Pull up the cover around the base of the hand brake and you will see a silver Ecu that will say airbag on it.

This is the icm.
And connecting pin 1 to pin 28 on the icm does make the on off switch work.

I managed to unplug by gaining access through the base of the hand brake.

All coded and fully working now.

I have pulled up the cover, but there is nor ICM Indeed, I didn't removed the cover of the hand brake yet.
Did you had the PIN 2 from central console already connected?

Best regards,
Sebastian.

Pin 2 was already connected.
Had to connect pin 1 to pin 28 of icm to get the on off switch to work.

So you don't have the icm under the centre consul?
You are working on a F30?

I'am working on F20.
Most probably I need to connect Pin1 to Pin28 as well, but first I need to find out where the ICM is located on F20. I will try to open the hand brake cover, may be is located more under the arm rest, who knows. According to bmw official inteuctions, should be there.

Thank you.

Well, it seems that I have found the ICM under the arm rest. I wasn't able to see it from the beginning because I have upon the ICM a tube for rear air control.
I hope that I can unplug the connector without removing the entire arm rest.

Thanks.

You can.
Just remove the rear air vents.
This will give you access to the air ducting.
Pull that out through the hole where the vents were, and you will see the icm.
There's no need to remove either the arm rest or centre consul.
It's easy enough to remove and put back.

I hope I can unplug the connector through the hole made by removing the cover of hand brake.

Can I find somewhere the pin configuration for the ICM? Could be found on internet any technical/electrical documentation?
It is still strange for me that the official installation instruction does not mention about this PIN connection between central console and ICM (PIN1 on central console and PIN 28 on ICM).

This evening I have managed to connect central console to the ICM. Indeed, right now the enable/disable button form central console it's working well.

Next thing that I still need to be done is to code the comfort system to know about the front PDC presence.
I don't own any software for BMW (I have only Vag-COM for vag cars) but I hope the dealer will be willing to code me the car if I cannot find someone that can help me.

I would like to thank everyone that have provided support in completing the work on this.

If you have connected the correct pins it will work when coded.
If I had access to remote coding I would do it for you, as I code my car myself.

The software is available free.
And as you would be vo coding you don't need a token to get front pdc working properly.
There are guides of how to use the esys software on the forums.

It would be a useful bit of software for you, as once you get use to it you can code all sorts of things.

In order to do more additional coding that is not vo coding but fdl coding you would need the token.
This is not expensive.

Hi,

Here's something for your consideration; I purchased the ultrasonic sensors off of eBay for about $30 each, sanded them down and painted them with touch paint. Here's eBay site for VaTaPro http://www.ebay.com/itm/PARKING-PARK-ASSIST-SENSOR-for-BMW-1-3-4-F20-F21-F22-F30-F31-F32-F33-F34-M3/251733224522?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkpa rms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3 D27675%26meid%3D5a4c6445ded0441198bea8f32869a0c7%2 6pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D2615444289 61 (from HongKong) or http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PDC-PARK...3D261544428961 (from California). They come in either black or white, along with plastic collar. Have had them on for over 6 months and have not had a problem.

Hey RSnic, how much did you sand on them? There is a metal looking ring on the outside, then it goes to a black paint in the middle then down to a same metal looking center as the outside ring (if that makes any sense).

SteelerFan,

I stopped when I saw the metal looking ring on the outside; I then painted with matching BMW touch-up paint that matches my car and then a light coat of the clear coat that came with the touch up paint set -- gotta' say that the touch-up paint is hard to work with!
