F36 upcoming bumper replacement

This past week I noticed something odd in one of my pictures (front view, see attached). I got back from a recent business trip and took a better look under the bumper. Sure enough there is about a 6" tear. I have not hit anything or gone over a bad pot hole while I have owned this car so this damage was here when I purchased the car in March. Shame on me for not getting under the car to take a look. it was raining but still no excuse. That said, I will probably now be looking at a bumper replacement and will go with a M Sport bumper.

I have done a search in the forum for past threads and there are few that discuss going from an Sportline bumper to a M Sport. For those who have done this let me know what M Sport bumper was sourced, the parts needed that are different from parts for the Sportline, what parts can be transferred, and the overall process in the replacement. This is something I will probably undertake later this summer or into the fall when I get some time.

Thanks in advance!!!

I did a full OEM M sport retrofit to 435i about 2 months ago. In terms of parts, it varies greatly. If you're going aftermarket, you won't need a whole lot... OEM is a completely different story.

I'd start the homework from realoem.com Use your cars manufacture date at the beginning so that you can see the most applicable list of part numbers for your car.

Below are examples for 2019 F36 (manufacture date mid 2019) as an example.
Front Sport Line bumper set-up:

The M Bumper set-up for same car:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_9255

Look for difference in airducts as well. Some are interchangeable between SportLine and M Type:

Good luck.

Nothing is interchangeable between the sportline front bumper and the m sport front bumper except for the kidney grills and the reflectors. All the ducting, supports and almost everything behind the bumper changes when you go OEM. It's not an easy swap and it's expensive. But, nothing beats OEM for body parts imo.

It is expected. I went through full M swap on my e39 M Spec car in the past, front and rear. Even the radiator front cover and ducting had to be replaced.

I had seen that there are a few different parts. I have found a couple kits that contain all the necessary parts like ducting, supports, etc. I have still not decided whether I will do this or have the bumper repaired but am leaning on replacement. Problem with replacing the bumper to an M Sport version is that I will need to eventually replace the side skirts for a better aesthetic look. Then again I prefer the M Sport but the Sportline isn't hideous for this old man.

Not fun at all. The deformation elements are the worst part as you have to move cooling system components to access the mounting bolts.

If you're going to do the conversion I suggest buying the entire kit from getbmwparts.com. they sell the entire conversion kit for around 4900 shipped. The only thing it doesn't come with is the door sills and the steering wheel.

Thanks! I will definitely keep this in mind. I appreciate the insight.

The bumper damage isn't that bad so a bumper replacement is now not on the table. There is a bumper retaining rivet missing and a screw that was stripped. I will look for a replacement rivet once I find out what is used for the bumper and relocate the screw. I may look into adding a Sportline front bumper lip that will conceal the bumper repaint that I will end up doing.
