The Hummer had torsion bar front suspension? That's wild, my colorado had struts up front with coil springs. I would have assumed they stuck with that for the Hummers too. Anyways, back on topic... What about something bonkers like a Shelby cobra replica? |

There's a lovely Interlagos blue Z4M roadster with 55K miles for basically $20K in the USA. That is a LOT of fun for $20K jesus freaking H.

Buy a Cayman and put a deman 4.5 motor swap in it. You'll be over $100K but I think you can get it done with $120 realistically. They can be swapped into a 2016 Gt4 which are coming into realistic territory for you.
The 4.5 easily puts down 475 wheel horsepower with a massive upgrade in torque and is a genuinely badass car. You can customize the gear ratios, exhaust, clutch to your liking/budget. Or a 991.1 GT3 are coming down into 100ish territory. I know about the finger followers but there are aftermarket options as well as extended warranties. Both would be a lot of car for the money. |

How about something completely different.
Wrangler 392 on factory 35s or Bronco Raptor on factory 37s. Or blow your money on a Raptor R?

Since you were digging the 458, I'd say save up and maybe consider a GTC4 Lusso if you want those epic engine sounds and the stuff. It's overpriced to $150k at least but... well, eh. Still a cool car though if you like it fast and loud. Very daily and family-serviceable too with the shooting brake design.
Close to $200k you could be looking at the 200 something HP hybrid, 800 HP total SL63 AMG E edition. Though realistically, it also is an overpriced car, very much so. At $100k I'd just get a fancy EV. Lucid might do it... |

However, I am still open to replacing the 6 with an actual fun to drive winter car that doesn't cost much and is reliable.

I remember 100K was easy for cars, now it seems like they are junk before then. And not even small issues, usually really expensive catastrophic issues. I would really look into how much "fun" you can have with it, until it gets expensive. |

I've just sold my bike so am looking for a "toy" which I can also play around with when I retire in a couple of years.
I'm going for something old school. It's not the fastest but it is an absolute hoot to drive. |

If u have an sav as a potential, you really should drive an X4MC. I think you’ll find it super fun especially if its your winter car. Just get a proper winter tire and wheel setup and you wont be disappointed.
It is the spiritual successor to my former F80, and unlike the G8x designs, this is still classic BMW, and its faster than 99% of the cars on the road. I luv it so much that im buying it out next month as my daily, and will keep it while we all await the next M3 design and pray they learn the next time to keep it bmw and also dont mess it like the new M5 bs. Good luck!

Unpopular opinion around here, but I DGAF. BMW doesn't do "fun". They are hyper serious about performance, comfort, and quality. They cannot fathom things that are stupid and fun. They cannot fathom putting 700hp into a rwd car. They cannot understand having an SUV that will kick the ass end out without much prodding. They can't see the fun in steering so hyper quick that it's a handful.
I drove a buncha cars before settling on my M50i. The X3M and M50i are fast competent vehicles, but they take themselves so very seriously. They don't do stuff "for the lolz". They do things to be faster around the race track nobody will ever take them to. Saying all this, I still picked the X5 because it was the best all around package. It isn't as playful as a Stelvio, or as raucous as a hellcat Durango or Trackhawk. It isn't hot hatch pretending to be an SUV like a Macan. But it's a very, very good package that's very well rounded. X3M was a little too down-market inside, a little too small inside, and frankly just didn't offer the overall package that X5 did at a nearly the same price point. |

I agree 1000%. Had an X3 with the turbo 6 cylinder, the one before BMW got androgenous, 2013 I think. Great car, powerful and well sorted but no fun. The Stelvio 4 banger runs rings around it from a handling perspective.

But thats your likes and so be it, doesnt impact my fun one bit, we all have our likes and u like fast trucks and i like sportscars. i would never call a durango anything or trackhawk lolz fun no matter how fast it is but i dont have to, i am glad u do thats why there are so many choices in the world. But back to the OP, for a daily driver and especially for winter considerations, the X4MC cannot be beaten and it can surely kick its ass out with one press of a button if one so chooses.
