Unless I am unluckiest guy in the world, something is not right and i have no idea what to do now.
It was really hard to find a head unit compatible with my car last time.

Any idea what could be causing this? Faulty Battery maybe?
Also, both head unit died on the hottest day here in the UK.
Could be a design flaw on the model my car uses? My unit is the simple one, no SAT NAV or ConnectedDrive.

So, I took today the car to an independent BMW Specialist and it is now fixed.
I haven't got the car back yet but it is ready.

It was the unit software. The technician just updated it.

Could be the SW not controlling the FAN at the back properly? Maybe it shutdown because the heat and some glitch was not letting it boot again.
Im really not sure.

Well, it is sorted now and it cost me £50.
So could not be happier with the result.

God knows how much a BMW dealer would charge me.

So you have a AVIN Android screen fitted at the moment?

It seems to me that your actual headunit (sits behind the climate control panel) is in a reboot loop. This requires a flash to the latest psdzdata in order to fix if it's a software issue.

On rare occasions it can be a hardware related problem which means it needs to be replaced.

If it's still under warranty put the original screen back on ( you should see it start up and then reboot every so often) and get dealer to rectify the issue under warranty.

Once the reboot problem is fixed you should be able to run your AVIN normally.

We've had a few customers send their defective units to us so that we can examine them and each time, it has lead to the head unit being replaced.

If you're seeing the head unit being stuck on the BWM logo, it will not go into a booted up state so therefore it will report no faults on ISTA and remain green on the diagnostic system.

We've also attempted to flash a few of these non-working units and it will fail on the first SWFL file and will become unrecoverable likely due to corrupt EMMC memory. Another we tried will just get stuck into bootloader mode and will not progress any further.

My base model 328i is stuck on reboot loop and the radio has stopped working completely. The radio previously had issues with loud static intermittently coming from the right rear speaker even while the car was off, then one day it quit working all together and started to boot loop every few minutes. I have ordered a used HU on ebay to try swapping it out, does anyone know if there will be a security code I need to find or get for the replacement HU to make it work?

Ive also suffered from this problem of being stuck on the BMW logo. I was advised by a BMW specialist that I needed to buy a replacement head unit For my 2014 HU_Entry F30, but not given any additional information.
When I removed the original unit I noticed a few connections were different. I have been digging but cant find any documentation on what these wires control, is there anyone on here who can point me in the correct direction?
The original unit in the car has the Green and Yellow Connections on the right while the replacement unit I bought does not. Ive highlighted these in the attached photos

Does anyone know if you have to reprogram a headunit after installing a new one? I bought it off eBay but some features are not working like car Bluetooth and my Bluetooth adapter won't connect to usb but says it's connected to aux but no sound.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, and joined hoping i could find help with my Radio as well. I have a 2014 435i M-Sport, with the base NON Nav 6.5" screen. It also seems to be in a constant state of reboot. It shows the BMW Logo for a couple minutes, then goes black, then BMW logo over and over and over. I'd like to just replace the head unit with a Apple carplay head unit, I don't really need NAV, I can just use carplay for NAV when needed. Can anyone lead me in the right direction on what head unit to purchase? or how to fix? Thank you very much for any assistance!

Thanks to all of you who have provided info in this thread. I recently picked up a 2014 328i Sedan, and am having the same issue. Screen goes to "BMW" splash screen, I can hear the radio (whatever the last station that was set) but can't change stations or try to switch modes to play a CD, or eject the CD that's in there. After a few minutes it will reboot itself and go back to the same state, and same deal again.

From all I've read here, I need to replace the head unit. I am going to try to source a local used one, does it NEED to be the same exact radio? I've deduced that mine should be an NBT one. I took the unit out and took pictures of it and the part numbers, etc. Looks like I don't have bluetooth, and I don't have a reverse camera, nor do I have navigation. Does that mean the new one has to be all the same there, Non-Bluetooth, non-reverse camera, non-nav? Or do I simply need an NBT radio and use the bluetooth, nav, etc. as an upgrade?

Lastly, is it worth replacing the head unit? or is there a good upgrade/replacement where my money would be better spent?

Hi, I have two 2014 F31 M sport wagons, and one of them has had the dreaded Head Unit Failure. I've been waiting for a replacement from BMW for 8 months now, but they're back ordered due to the chip shortage.

Does anyone know an alternative source where I can get one? I understand they are very VIN specific so even if they have one it may not be the right part, which makes it that much more fun!

Hello, I also have the same problem with the iDrive system, the dealership quoted me a 4 figure replacement.

I really hope there's some way to fix this without having to replace the entire head unit. If anyone has a possible fix please let me know. I don't want to have to pay that just for a head unit that could possibly be fixed with a software update.

If there's a flash I can do or something of the sort, that would be amazing.

Problem :

- Stuck on one radio channel, no buttons work (channel buttons)
- Tried to reset it holding the volume button for over 25 seconds
- Tried battery disconnect

We've tried flashing these head units in this non bootable state and it'll brick and cause the head unit to be stuck on a bootloader screen.

These head units are hard to come by now a days due to the short production span and high failure rate but if you get a Magneti Marelli 1 DIN unit from a 2015-2017 model, you can use that a replacement with additional rewiring and programming.

We do offer these head units pre-programmed or if you're able to source your own, we also sell the wiring kits separately and can provide instructions and support and this will put you will below that 4 figure mark quoted from the dealer.

Steve, I'm in Canada and have an F30 2014 328i X Drive. This weekend the display would be playing fine then the bluetooth would drop off, then it would reboot then stop on the no signal screen then eventually come back. Basically it's flakey as to what/when/if it's going to display. Originally I was thinking it may be a connection issue but I haven't seen much in the way of connection issues in the threads. Before I begin shipping bits and pieces to you, can you provide any possible insight to this situation? Thank-you. Kelly
