Anyone that had an N54 or N55 knows how weak the stock BMW charge pipes can be, but the B58 is an all new design that doesn't experience the same failures. This video shows just how big of an improvement the B58 charge pipe is, and why it can handle high hp applications. It also mentions the instances where an upgraded charge pipe could be beneficial.

Just so no one is confused reading that The B58 CP is connected from turbo to intake manifold that has an integrated IC. But the point of the turbo/engine moving in sync is still true.

On N55, the CP was connected between the engine and the IC; The IC is not shaking as much as the engine which was causing stress to the CP and eventually crack. On B58, the CP is connected from the intake manifold to the turbo; which are both moving "in sync".

So even tho the B58 dp is still in plastic, it's not prone to failures like the N54/N55 design. So swap for swap is wasted money.

The F3x N55 chargepipe is a poor design because it has a 90 degree bend. It always cracks at the bend or at the end near the bend.

While its true its not as likely to crack like the n55 model under normal driving conditions, being that its a fiber reinforced plastic its still susceptible to damage in certain situations.

A upgraded charge pipe is a fairly low cost mod. It looks great under the hood and peace of mind is always nice (plastics vs aluminum). You also gain meth/boost gauge bungs if needed in the future.
