Tyre size double check pls!

Hi all,

I have new wheels ready to go, and tyres booked in and now having a minor panic that I’ll have issues and would appreciate confirmation as only have a week to change tyre order if needed.

Wheels
F: 8.5J x 19 - ET32
R: 9.5J x 19 - ET40

Tyres
F: MP4S 245/35/19
R: MP4S 275/30/19

Stock M Sport suspension (340i) and have Eibach Pro on order.

Searched dozens of threads for these exact sizings with PS4s tyres and wasn’t able to confirm 100% if I will have rubbing issues on either M Sport or Eibach springs? (Aware arch gap on M sport springs will be 6-8mm more to start with)

Using https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...9-5&offset2=40 and bearing in mind I’m currently running 15mm spacers out back poke should only really be 4-5mm more than it is now, but, 275/30 MP4S will be squarer than the 255/35 on 442M so getting a touch concerned.

Pretty sure all will be ok and be flush or a little bit of poke due to the MP4S being quite a square tyre, if folks could put my mind at rest please would be brill, can’t wait to ditch the 442Ms and Pzero RFT!

Found this https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1155457 thread and seems to imply all will be well. Still keen to get a couple of nods of approval if possible pls

Seems with a bit more digging that all should be well as I thought, but now have a curveball of 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 to consider for less arch gap (eibach are mild drop) and more comfort

How about 235/40/19 & 265/35/19?

245/40/19 will rub the fender liner ever so slightly. If you put lowering springs on it will make it worse. 235/40 would be safer. 275/35/19 in the rear is no issue.

Thanks both. After a bit more digging I’ve cancelled previous order and ordered

255/35 for the 8.5 ET32
265/35 for the 9.5 ET40

Kinda hoping I can get away without lowering, but also happy to do so if needed. Certainly want to keep the sidewalls as UK roads are rubbish.

With these sizes on these rims am I risking the fronts having a little bulge and the rear a tiny stretch with the PS4s?

Not too late to cancel, I just want the optimum fit, grip, look for the wheels I have so want to get it right

Thanks!

yes 255/35=slight bulge on 8.5 but 265 is perfect fit on 9.5. if you do 275/35/19 rear w/255 front, then both front and rear will have a slight bulge.

F32 with 245/40/19 & 275/35/19 on 8.5 ET33, 9.5 ET43, lowered, no rub...

F30 with 235/40/19 & 265/35/19 on 8.5 ET30, 10" ET45, lowered no rub

Thank you Aloha! Seen your posts on many wheel/tyre threads, great to get your thoughts/advice.

Both of those cars look great, given that I will be going for MPS4S all round (which IIRC are slightly wider by design than Contis) would I get away with 275/35 on the 9.5 ET40s both stock rwd m sport and later when eibach pro are fitted? If so that could be the way to go with the 255/35 up front for max grip and similar visuals. Can’t risk rub though so if there is a risk/close call I can drop a size.

Given tyres are MPS4S, f30, rwd, wheels are 8.5 et32 and 9.5 et40, initially stock m sport but eibach pro soon, what would your ultimate tyre size be please for grip, visuals and zero risk of rub?

Really appreciate your help, didn’t expect to be so many variables

here's a few F30's with 245/40/19 & 275/35/19

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=410

F30 with 235/40/19 265/35/19

F32 & F36 with 255/35/19 275/35/19
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=463
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=511

235/40/19(26.4") best fit 8-8.5", sharper turn in than 245 or 255
245/40/19(26.7") best fit 8.5"
255/35/19(26") best fits 9", duller turn in but most front grip will reduce understeer during high speed turns
265/35/19(26.3") best fits 9.5"
275/35/19(26.6") slight bulge on 9.5", heightened pavement gearing, 1#ish heavier than 265

taller heightens final gearing
wider increases rolling resistance which has pluses and minuses.
heavier tire=weight is never good

235/40/19 265/35/19 will work all day, happy medium of all variables
245/40/19 275/35/19 least drop req'd since taller fills gap. beefy appearance
255/35/19 275/35/19 most grip for dig and turns as well. will be close to but should not rub fenderwell liner at full lock.

235/40/19 @ ET32 front = 100% no rub

245/40/19 @ ET32 = tiny % chance of grazing fenderwell liner or fenderwell tab at full lock or while turning on grade transitions.

With taller tires, if ET is too high the inner tire shoulder may contact the spring perch. If too low, outer tire shoulder may rub fenderwell liner while turning. Personally, I think you'll be fine but since there are some reports of interference occurring, it must be considered.

Thank you again, after careful consideration I have opted for the play it safe 235/40 265/35 combo with MPS4S

Much appreciate your input!

First time posting - I've been reading everywhere in these forums, especially alohasurftoad many contributions on this subject.

My 2016 F30 MSport (daily d + canyon runs only) been on stock 400M w 225/45ZR18 on 18x8 et 34 (w/ 12 mm spacers) + 255/40ZR18 on 18x8.5 et 47 (w/ 15 mm spacers). (camber -1.1 front , -2.0 rear).

Proper track buddy has some Titan TS5 for E46 Square 18x9.5 et 22 I'm hoping to make fit with 255/3518. Of course, it's not "ideal" square selecting either the two sizes above, diameter goes from 26 to 25 so -3.7% so as long as no rubbing ... we jacked the other side all the way to simulate bottoming out and it passed the credit card test but wow that is very pokey!!!

These pics are with his 265s so I expect it will fit! I have Swift Linear Springs installed.

Let's hope the Costco manager will install them since not an OEM spec. Will arrive with the new wheels on, so maybe they wont ask

yes

however 235/35/20-265/30/20 would be less stretch up front and reduce the x-drive wheel gap better

I suggest the following (the changes in bold). Better grip, ride quality, rim protection, appearance, and perfect for x-drive.

Front : 235/35 r20 on 8,5j x 20 ET 35
Rear : 275/30 r20 on 9,5J x 20 ET 40
