[Pic]Damaged Tire. Safe to Drive For A Week?

Mechanic noticed this before I grab the car. Was planning on getting new tires soon. Of course I don't think this is safe long term but just for the meanwhile as it is my only car. This is in the rear fortunately so god forbid any blowouts my front ones are intact.

Nope. You've got drastically reduced ability to hold up sidewall pressure, so turning and putting load on that tire could lead to it blowing. On the plus side, it's not a tall sidewall so the drop to the ground won't be as drastic if it does happen.

You can see the cords exposed, no way would I risk driving on that tyre, potentially very dangerous to do so.

Garage List
The edge of the tread there is warped, and the sidewall clearly cut.

I might, if it was an absolute must, drive it for a few miles at no more than 30mph, ideally only 20mph, ie to get home or to a garage if there was no alternative.

But if I was already at home, I'd not be going anywhere.

Are they runflats? If so, perhaps you could deflate it and drive a short distance on it, but I wouldn't want to drive with it inflated unless absolutely necessary to get home.

If you're very gentle in your driving, you should be ok.
With this gentle style of driving for the week, even if it blows out, I don't think there'll be serious damage. The more likely worst-scenarios is air leaking through the damaged spot and the tyre will deflate gradually.

Now that your totally aware of this and posted a picture of the tire of proof of your awareness, what's the price of a lawsuit vs a new tire? Cause an accident because your tire blew out and you knowing it, heavyweight to bear.

That 1302 isn’t the date code is it?

I don't think the H1302 is the date code, It's a model. I don't think Driveguards have been around that long. It looks like a Driveguard tire. Date code would be on the other end.

Nope! If that comes apart it's not just the tire; it's the inner fender, the fender, brake likes etc that are going to get destroyed from that tire flopping around.

I had a rental that blew a tire making a mild left turn through an intersection. The tire came apart and destroyed the inner fender and fender. Luckily it was the one time I opted for the insurance so it didn't cost me a dime. Damage was extensive for a simple blow out.

For all intents and purposes there's no warranty on original equipment tires. Replacement tires have road hazard warranties, which would be spelled out on the sales receipt.

Really appreciate you. Thanks!

Back for Thanksgiving and was helping my fam out with all these chores and of course this happened. If it was my call I'd have new tires on the way already without posting. Thankfully was able to convince my (stubborn) dad. New rears to replace the damaged one coming tomorrow, and new front ones to replace near balding ones coming Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

If you could drive that far on that tire, there's nothing stopping me from asking my crush out

Did the same with a run flat chunk. Drove 20-30miles all the way home, at 50mph on the highway for 20 of those miles.

For the 1/100 occasion when you get a flat, run flats see worth the money in gold. The other 99/100 they are shit. Just buy some regular tires and get roadaide with tire insurance.

Don't be a pussy. I track on tires that are in far worse condition.
