is ICOM really needed?

Do I really need to have ICOM to update the car software?
Not sure if I need to have the ICOM. can someone confirm for me?
So far I can use ENET cable to code but have not try to program/update software

If I need one, any recommendation from a good seller?

Is it not true that ICOM is required to code/program with ISTA-P or ISTA+? Or does it work with ENET as well?

You cannot program a car via ISTA+ using ENET. ICOM is required.

That's not true anymore. The latest ISTA+ allows to perform software update via ENET cable.

That is a half truth, yes you can make ISTA program over an ENET cable, however it is not advised because an ENET cable is not the same thing as an ICOM.
