To the OP, if its a choice between a 335i and a 330d, I would have the 335i if I could live with low 20 mpg's. Some can and that's absolutely fine. The 330d would also be an amazing choice too. It depends on what type of driving you do.

I would recommend the diesel over the petrol unless you are going for a true performance model like an M4. I have had 3 years with an Impreza running around 340bhp and changing to the 335d the surge is so smooth and refined. I loved the Subaru but the diesel offers performance close to it with almost twice the economy. The sports auto box is a beauty.
The 335i will have a soundtrack but those with a 335d will know that in sport mode the dirty derv sounds great. |

Fair enough, and on the most part I agree. I would have a petrol if I could justify the higher running costs.

Same it was the filling up weekly rather than monthly and the actual hand in pocket costs. Originally I had thought next car would be petrol, however new diesels with new 8AT. That and to justice to the 335i (and 328), I would be in points on licence territory. |

I test drove both. You can see which I bought.
PS I've got on average 29.8mpg over 2500 miles... I *can* get top 30's at a steady 70mph on the motorway. But I don't really care much about fuel economy so it was really a no brainer choice for me. |

Excellent. How did the two compare performance wise? I will be ordering on Monday & it will be petrol at the moment.

At low end the two feel similar (if not sounding similar). ...But it just did not compare to the 335i...nothing (IMO) like the sound track and feel of an IL6 Petrol giving beans. Unless you are doing diesel mileage and/or care about MPG just get the petrol. |

You do have to remember it always starts up in comfort mode, which is actually great for pootling around town with the missus or whatever....it really calms the car down (although it's still quick). Just remember to put it into sport mode when you get out into the NSL's, and grin. A lot Oh also coming from the diesel over 2500 miles in I still have a habit of starting the motor with the door open and then just listening for a second or too to the rather lovely start up sound. |

I've had my 335i touring a couple of weeks now & love it. Still running in but have a wee trip to Cornwall tomorrow which will add a few hundred miles. Silky smooth straight 6 is superb even without breaking 4000 revs

Hi guys my thread earlier about 428i vs 435i and was wondering if anybody was running a 328i could they comment on how they are enjoying the car.
Me and the missus are planning trip to France in September, would a 435i convertible be a better cruiser for crossing the continent than 28i.? |

Diesel all the way for me - much prefer the way they drive especially the low end torque. You dont have to rev like a petrol. Horses for courses
