Number plate retention- anybody had a inspection?
I went online to put my reg on retention last week and it said I had to do it via post. I thought no problem, plenty of time. It’s now a week later so I have phoned them and they have said it was to be done via post because I have been selected for a inspection, but this could just be document inspection. They wouldn’t say anything else other than I’ll get something in the post.
Anybody had anything like this? |

It’s all very frustrating because with out the retention it will make picking up the new car difficult, and without the V5 for my car it delays selling it.
I thought when they changed to online transfers it would be quicker and easier! Oh well, just have to wait it out. |

When I p/x'd my bike last year I let the dealer do the transfer online at collection time.
I wonder what would have happened if the DVLA had said the application needed to be posted. |

Yeh I’ve done that too. I nearly traded the car in, so no doubt it would have delayed things.

I've just switched cars a few weeks ago and when I went online to put my reg on retention last week and it did say I had to do it via post. I then used their live chat system and it transpired that I had overlooked taxing the vehicle , so that's why it wouldn't allow me to do the retention at that point. My bad - taxed the vehicle and applied again online after 24 hours and it all went through (they actually advised that I may need to wait upto 5 days for the records). |

Ok taking the tax thing in to consideration, I tried to do it online on 21st and the insurance was due to renew on 23rd. I wonder if this was something to do with it!
I did actually go online chat when it asked to send the form. The guy wasn’t very helpful and just said sometimes they ask for them to be sent via post if the car is a older car?! I think this was rubbish, but sent everything anyway. |

Worth ringing and explaining the situation and if anything you can do temporarily so cars don't get held up etc |
