One nice thing about V1 is you can get it upgraded as technology improves (Like Junk-K filtering). Mine was over 20 years old and had been upgraded once. Just sent it in for replacement with new unit at 2/3 of new cost.

But to get radar band readout you need to add savy or app to phone ?
Wondering if to upgrade or get Uniden R1.
V1 is 'kind of' old and I personally don't need the sensitivity thought the arrows might be the reasoning to go with V1.

The v1 isn't "old". They update it every year or two. The case is old but for a reason. Its the same case, made from magnesium, not cheap plastic, that they've always used. The internals however get updated. By using the same case, you can send in your old detector every few years and have it upgraded to the current version for a fraction of the price. Signal strength is measured in beep frequency, which is better anyway so you can look for the cop while hearing the strength instead of looking at a signal strength meter. Uniden isn't in the same class.

Is the Escort Redline Xl that obsolete?! I live in an area that is 90% highway and the city police run their Ka band continuously.

I have had Escorts for many years...

I am on my 2nd Solo, a Solo 2 ($299) I absolutely love it.

Runs on batteries, and I use rechargeable ones to $ave.

No problems with x band as I always run with it off.

I've had my V1 for 19-years and I still can't determine which frequency from the beeps and braps
I know the V1 is the best (Stinger?). But cheap plastic models are a bit more interior friendly for me.

Nope. Still winning comparison tests against every detector. Not feature rich, no GPS lockouts, but detection range and sensitivity second to none.

My cheap plastic encased Escorts have lasted and lasted and lasted. Still have both of them and they are all in full working order (8500 from 2001 that I had upgraded by Escort for $75 in 2007 to an X50 and currently-in use-9500ix from 2014). They've been dropped, fallen off their mounts, and endured black on black interiors in the TX heat. Both of them still work perfectly.

Man, really wish I would've sprung for a V1 so I could have as-good or inferior protection and that magnesium case.

Not saying that. The v1 does have better range when a company that doesn't sell or isn't affiliated with one that sells detectors does the testing. I have a passport. The v1 crushes it in range. It also has the arrows which have helped too many tines to count. The magnesium case vs plastic is only a benefit when doing upgrades. I drop my passport same as you. The cheap upgrade vs buy a new one is a definite savings.

Max 360 and Waze for me; so far so good although I'm far from an expert in what constitutes a good or bad radar. I will say I've avoided quite a bit of tickets with this setup and that's what I gauge to measure effectiveness. Let the debate rage on.

Update it for less than the uniden and have a superior detector, or sell it for $200 to someone who will.

No, my update cost was $299 on the Valentine - virtually the same outlay going Uniden or V1.

I run the new v1 paired to v1 driver app on my phone which locks out false alerts and will tell me the band when it's triggered.

No complaints.

I read this guide and I choose it

http://carunderstanding.com/best-rad...tor-under-200/

I bought this Radar Detector to use when travelling from Colorado to Florida. I drove a WS6 and crossed some straight lines. I felt very comfortable using this radar detector. I was worried that it wasn't working when I did not receive any signals all the way into Texas. But when I did get a signal, I was glad because it meant it worked. It told me I got hit by a laser about a mile and a half. The only problem was when I was pulled over in Texas and I did not receive any warnings from the detector. I could not think of a reason why I didn't get alerted. I could see police from a quarter mile away and I'm the only one on the road. The reason why police asked me to pull over was because I was reading the map and did not notice the speed change. However, the police were really friendly and even gave me directions. Overall, this is a very good wireless detector, with a small hiccup when I wasn't alerted that one time.

Radar detectors are almost useless against laser. Even if it alerts to laser occasionally, it is most likely too late already as the cop has your speed. You need a laser jammer. Several years ago in my state the highway patrols have switched to 95% laser. The local guys still use radar mostly though so you have to run both a detector and jammer for complete protection.

Correct. I run v1 radar, jammers, and waze app. They each have saved me in situations that the others wouldn't have.

I will be writing a detailed article about it, but the MAX 360 gets my vote.

A little off topic, but still relevant IMO. I have an Escort 8500 built in remote unit that I installed in my Z4M. I have a thread here somewhere from the install a few years back. I opted at that time to not get the GPS version, the reason being the shifty city police in my area are notorious for setting up speed traps next to known false alarm emitters. I run it in auto no X and deal with the occasional false alarm. Do you guys run into that with your GPS lockouts? Speed traps in the vicinity of the false alarm?
