This is literally just a shot in the dark, but that plastic piece looks like it could have been off of the timing chain tensioner or something.

A Google search of N55 "timing chain tensioner" and "N55 piston" appear to indicate that the parts are:
1) The black plastic is part of the tensioner frame. 2) The metal rings are wrist piston retainers. Both of these parts being able to fall into the sump makes total sense too as this is directly where they'd fall and not get chewed up. Given there's metal shavings in the oil and wrist pin retainers have been knocked out makes me think this N55 is done for.

After looking at google images, I agree with XutvJet, the metal looks like wrist pin locks. This engine is probably gonna need a hefty makeover.

What is the mileage on the car. You say the car is used for competitive racing is it totally stock?
what would cause this? oil temps too high no lubrication?

N55 and oil pan is really not designed for high sustained G loads of track driving, probably just accelerated wear from beating on it.

If the spirolocks are out and the piston pin has gotten into the cylinder wall, it should have oil smoke, not just out the tailpipe but inside the crankcase too. Can you run a compression test?
