new downpipe thread 02/27/19

Looking to get a catless downpipe. ive done plenty of research on the subject, used the search function etc. I made this thread for any new insight on downpipes. which is the highest flowing with the cleanest bends? how certain downpipes have held up over the years? any sound differences? I am considering the wagner because it looks the most like stock that I have seen. also because im most likely getting a wagner intercooler. then I'm looking at ER because I loved the quality of my CP. Especially the anodized black. then vrsf because of price and because it looks like it is one of the straightest pipes. I have a 2013 335ix 6mt build date 2/13. PWG. so that may limit the available options. I have seen the response "a pipe is a pipe before" I disagree. fitment and build quality. along with the shape i imagine plays a factor. please weigh in your experiance on the DP you have run. super excited to take the second to last step before bootmod3 stage 2. thanks guys.

Just pick one. They aren't that different and it's a short pipe.

The shapes can't be too different else they all wouldn't be able to replace the same part. All of the brands available are fine. When you add the catted option you will run into quality issues. Some use better catalyst material than others. Most of not all will give you a CEL on stock tune unless it's the Fabspeed. If you are tuned it doesn't even matter. If you don't need to pass emissions it doesn't matter which DP you get they are all the same.

A pipe is a pipe.

The ER one is probably the largest internal volume pipe of all of the brands out there. Its a 4" body which will taper down to a 3.5" flange for the PWG cars.

ok thanks for reply. is there added benefit to this? like added performance or sound or fitment? the bottom of the vrsf and cts look different than the ER as well. so how is fitment different?

Isn't the flange in question the inlet of the DP? Outlet is the same size as exhaust which is 3", regardless of the turbo.

I have the CTS downpipe on my car, quality looks basically the same as the ER downpipe listed above. Fits great, looks great, nothing more needs said.

At the end of the day, it's a stainless pipe, short, and not really going through much stress. AKA no flex sections, not supporting much weight, etc.

Once you put it on you're going to forget which company's downpipe you have on under the car.

I also have the CTS charge pipes, and CTS intake, and I love the whole combo of goodies. Plus if you buy everything at once you get a good deal.
