Fun cars to me are cars you have for pure entertainment purposes. My GT3 is a fun car because I only drive it with the intent of having fun (track or otherwise). I don't DD it, and I don't take it to the grocery store, or mall. I drive a 2007 Hyundai Sonata or my wife's 335i for those purposes.

Many people here (especially the younger types) can only afford one car, so they have to find a car that performs a lot of duties. I understand that.

For the money, I'd take a C6 6MT w/Z51, or a C6 Z06 over an E92 M3, or RS5. That's not me bashing either car, it's more a testament to my own experience in the C6.

I think a better question is, "Can any driver here push an M3 or RS5 to those limits?"

I dont think I can push it to its limits but I have some ability when it comes to cars. I have raced Karts since the age of 12. Then I moved on to sportscar racing going to multiple racing schools.

Personally I would prefer the M3 to the RS5 any day as a track tool and an everyday sports car. Speed doesn't equal fun.

I like ti but it going to be in the 90-100k price range. I would NEVER own it because you cant get a manual transmission. Thats is how I feel.

Don't take it personally, Im not strictly pointing you out. but anybody and everybody here claim themselves as a car professional. It doesn't mean anything.

Unless someone has a professional career in racing, they won't be able to push the car to true limit.

dont worry I wont. I have raced in the daytona 24 hours and American Le Mans yet I never said that I can take any car to its limits.

How do you make that assessment when you haven't even driven the RS5, I'm assuming you've driven an M3.

I'm all cool with the "I want a manual for my car", that's totally personal preference but the whole 90-100k bench. That has to end until the official price comes out next year for the ppl living in North America.

Assumptions:

Magazines = 69k base msrp, with options 75k+.
Audi people = 75k~80k base msrp.

I really hope the magazines are correct with price estimate. If RS5 is 75k with options, I might seriously consider it.

That is true but from what I heard its going to be 90000 car. The old RS4 was over 75k so why not? I guess in a way this may compete with the M6.

To be honest I have been selling BMW for 6 years, and sold audi as well for almost 2 years at the same time as selling BMW and most people looking for an M3 NEVER cross shop it against anything. If they do its usually a 911. People who buy the sudi want it because it AWD and people buying the BMW could not care less about AWD. Same thing goes for a Porsche which I also sold at the same time as Audi and BMW. We had one showroom that sold BMW, Porsche,Audi and VW in one dealership so I am very fimilar with those makes and cross shopping. When you have all 4 car makes in one dealership if someone is even thinking about cross shopping they would have done it with me because its was so convienent to have all 4 makes in 1 building and I could sell and 4 of the makes we had.

Same thing goes for the S4 or any S car for that matyter. Most of the comparisions and arguing only goes on in car mags and on the forum. My biggest competitor selling BMWs are the other BMW dealerships not Audi, Lexus, Benz or any other car make for that matter. This is going to be a nice car but if its close to 911 money no thanks.

Sorry to disagree with you here but in my opinion this is total twaddle, we see on a regular basis M3 being traded against other brands. At the time of the launch of the RS4 I was surprised by the number of E43 M3 that were replaced by the RS4. Bottom line is the type of buyer for these types of motors are always looking the most up to date, fastest, most powerful car available regardless of make, as long as it's in their price bracket.

No doubt in the past with Audi's less than aggressive pricing policy it might not of been the same as we have had in the UK but when the pricing is very similar as we have here the cross shopping is very normal.

I say wait and see where the RS5 is priced and then we'll who is right.

Both the rs5 and the m3 are sweet, but I too thought that the rs5 was going to be at a price range pushing 90k. If it is indeed going to be at 75k fully optioned, then it would be pretty tough to pass up.

In this video you will see launch control being used and it works properly, no bogging down, the car briefly spins and then rockets to the distance. Also you'll see it under full acceleration and reaches 275km/h, if you wish you can compare it's rate of acceleration to that of an M3 M-DCT because for those who reckon it's awd system and tall gearing will dull it's upper limits of acceleration and thus prove to be slower than an M3 will be rather surprised then.
