Well I managed to do it! Cleaned up both and took the M140i out for one last blast. I will miss that engine, she takes off like a scalded cat where the 335 just sort of gains speed! Done first mods, aluminium pedals and silver vision indicators in the headlights. Here's the pics:

What gearbox, and what's the race endpoint?

Both cars are zf8, it’s an interesting question. In these conditions the 335d by a mile with the xdrive, probably once rolling too as it’s really hard to get the power down in the M140i with greasy roads and MPSS. Interestingly on the way home on Friday I lucked upon a pre lci m135i on a slip road and he gave it some beans, so did I and easily kept up! In the summer months it would be close from a standing start but on the move I think the M140i would walk it, but probably about the same if the 335d was remapped. The 335d really has to be in sport/+ with sport gearbox or it doesn’t really pick up like the M140i does in comfort. I wish I could have both tbh, and I guess that’s what a 340i is, but my current requirements etc, the 335 is the better car for me right now. I guarantee I’ll shed a tear as the M140i is taken away though it’s probably my favourite car I’ve owned since my old 1999 Impreza Turbo years ago. |

When I had my pre-LCI 135i I came up against an E9x 35d coupe and I couldn't shake it. I pinned it after waiting for a slower car to pull in and he was right with me until I moved in and lifted off. May or may not have been mapped but that was ZF8 versus old gearbox and both RWD. Factor in xDrive (greater effect at standing start obviously) and newer gearbox and I reckon the 35d is the quicker car. I appreciate the 40i is more powerful than the 35i though. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing stage 1 35ds easily seeing off more highly modified M lites due to the traction advantage.
