Exclamation Engine Management Light Easily Resolved!

EML came on at weekend. No messages on iDrive to indicate the issue After considering calling out BMW Emergency Service decided to check the tinternet for common issues first. Returned to the car with my new found wisdom - removed & re-fitted the fuel filler cap. Hey presto - no more EML.

Panic over. Hope this may prove useful to others.

Never knew the filler cap could cause an EML!

Apparently if the fuel cap isn't seated properly a sensor thinks there's an air leak on the fuel system somewhere. Maybe at 5 years old the seal on the cap is deteriorating as I'm sure I did it up properly? The rubber cord that ties the cap to the car perished months ago!

I fixed that issue by taking the bulb out.

Never bothered me again

If you've got BMW Emergency Service (as per your original post) then you've got warranty too.

Might I suggest letting them worry about it ?

Or as a large car supermarket did once on a car I dealt with as a service advisor..

If you can't get the EML to go out, simply take the bulb out from the dash. Then you can sell the car on with no warning lights on! (This was a Volvo S40 by the way, not a BMW)

My Alfa's never came on during the test drive when I sold it due to this "fix"!

You can have BMW assist only without warranty
