Gearbox F30 320d (2012)
Hey hey.
I did try a search but it keeps erroring, so apologies if this is something asked / found easily. Anyone know how to confirm the gearbox that is in my car? It’s a 2012 320d (Efficient Dynamics) saloon with a manual gearbox. I ask as i think I’m at the point of needing a replacement box! I understand that repair kits and repair options are limited but happy to hear otherwise of course! Basically it used to grind into 3rd but engaged with the grind or some rev matching so I suspect Paed the synchro’s were going but personal circumstances meant it was ignored and 3rd avoided where possible or used the Z4 more! Obviously it’s now got worse and I have a bigger issue - it does not engage 3rd gear (pops out under any throttle) and grinds into 4th (but does engage) like 3rd used to… so I think a. We box is the next step, but to get quotes and feasibility I’m after the model /part hence the original question. Thanks for your help!

Put the last 7-digits of your VIN number into RealOEM or BMWFans and have a look at the gearbox section to see what it lists as being in your car.
http://bmwfans.info https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select For example, searching for my automatic 2015 320D (pre-LCI) comes up with GA8HP45-ZAT (aka the ZF 8HP45, a 8-speed autobox with a 450NM torque limit)...is a common box as it's used in lots of models. If my car had the manual box it would be a GS6-45DZ-HAK. This is also a common box used in lots of models. However, using RealOEM to select your specific model (without having the VIN) says it uses a GS6-45DZ-H5H...it's those last 3 digits (HAK vs H5H) that I'm not sure make a significant difference or not. I believe the final drive is different though (3.1 non-ED vs 2.9 for the ED) Last edited by mmm-five; 09-06-2023 at 03:26 AM.. |
