Recommendations for All season tyres

Hey there,
I'm looking for all season tyres (location Iceland).

Any recommendations or experinces here on what brand/type is best?

It's 19" and original wheels, BMW 403M
Front Wheels: 8Jx19 ET36
Rear Wheels: 8.5Jx19 ET47

thanks in advance!

I always ran all season tires until this past year when I switched to summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and about to mount winter Michelin X-ICE i3. (Chosen because I get more cold and ice and 6 inches of snow or less at times. Average per winter is 22 inches of snow and 15 days driving on accumulated snow. Would have picked Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 if my climate had more actual snow days.)

What a difference to drive a rubber compound and tread designed specifically for that temperature range! I would have difficulty going back to all seasons which are basically a compromise. All seasons are just okay in most categories, but not really great at any.

If I had to pick an all season, I'd consider the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+

Don't really know your climate in Iceland and don't want to assume just because "ice" is literally in the name. Hope this helps!

I'm looking at the same thing. Time to switch over to my winter set-up but winters here in NC are pretty mild, so not a lot of snow and ice. Plus I have my Jeep for those days. I primarily just don't want to drive my new Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires on days that get below 45F. Looking to go cheap since it's only cold here for a few months and for the price the General G-MAX AS-05 have a good rating so probably going with those.

I can't imagine all seasons doing very well for you through the winter, even if you do have AWD.

To your question though, I found the Continental DSW 06's to be excellent in rain and light snow. They also have plenty of grip in the dry.

Another option which I still might go with for my next set of winter tires are the Nokian WR G4. My area might not require a full-on winter tire due to very little snow, but we sure get the cold weather and ice, which seems to be the type of climate idea for something like the Nokian.

Thank you for your responses.

The thing is the winter here are pretty mild. Not a lot of snow, and if so, it's only for a couple of days and snow-plow are on it immediately. So I'm looking for something that can get me through those days. I guess it's more important to get look at grip in ice or rain.

I'll look into those suggestions that have been mentioned here. Again, thanks.

Does Iceland not mandate snow tires, or tires with the little mountain and snow flake symbol be on the car between certain months of the year?

I had orders to one of the military bases in Iceland just before it shut down and I seem to remember reading about the snow tire laws and wondering how I was to get a set for my wife's SUV. Sadly, I was diverted to Hawaii and never had the chance to find out.

I have had all sorts of "performance" all seasons through the years. I have DWS on my F30 currently. Have the General G-MAX AS-05 on my mom's G37, good tire for the money. Have had Kumho ECSTAs and Falken ZIEX all seasons back in the day as well on other cars. All did fine in lighter snow. Just be smart about how you drive, that's the most important thing.

I ran DWS 06's on my GTI as my winter set for a couple years. One thing I noticed was while they did OK in light snow and slushy conditions, they were not good on snow pack or ice. When the temps get really cold, they harden like most tires (you could tell by the difference in the sound) and wouldn't grip very well in icy roads. I was quite surprised by how much more grip I had in extreme cold/ice/snow conditions we experienced the last couple of days with my dedicated winter tires.

This, 66.6%!

I used Max Summer tires for a while, but got tired of sliding around if it got below 50f & rained. The only thing worse is driving on snow tires in good weather because you had to take your Max summer tires off so soon. Have max summer tires gotten much better in this regard?
Now I buy among the best dry handling all-season tires, which I can keep on until Thanksgiving or so. Then I suffer with real snows.
If you can out-drive the better handling all-season tires on public roads, I hope you have a good radar detector, & a good lawyer!

directional tire is the only reason i didnt recommend. I like tires that can be rotated around the vehicle if they are all season

Just had General G-Max AS-05 19" staggered installed. Very happy so far, but only a few hundred miles. I've had Michelin AS3+ before on a prior BMW, and while they were good, thought they wore out fast. Wanted to try something different, and less expensive.

I went the opposite way of you. I had the GMAX AS03 on my last car because I was not going to be keeping it long and wanted a budget minded performance tire. I feel like the best thing I could say about them is they were cheap. Traction dry, wet and in snow were all just ok, at best, and they had a maddening trait of losing air pressure that I have never had with other tires. I went with the AS3 when replacing the tires on this car and am much happier so far. I hope for you that the AS05s are a big improvement over the old model.
