Cool Waterless Washing HEAVY DIRT & ROAD GRIME - F30 Edition

Here I review the Meguiars Waterless Wax-Wash Spray.
NOT A SPONSORED AD

I took a trip to Utah for the 4th of July break, drove 10 hours (Total commute) and my F30 was full of dirt, grime, and dust! #DirtyF30
So, instead of the tradition handwash option, I decided to make a video about the waterless option.

Check it out and share your thoughts!

I use ONR, which isn't exactly water less, but it's a similar concept. If the car is just dusty I don't bother to rinse first, but if it's covered with heavy dirt, or road salt and sand in winter, I rinse it first.

Oh wow, I need to check that out. I was scared since the paint was dirty, I mean super dirty! But, this spray held its own and did well!

Hi, sounds like it is worth a try.

How much of the spray was required to clean the car and would you say you could use this a few times before a proper wash or is it only for the occasional wash?

Thanks

I wouldn't use waterless. It's not good for the paint. It may get it clean but it also grinds the dirt and road grime into the clear coat / paint.

Im sure it works great if you know what you're doing but I'm so terrified to even wipe my car if theres dirt on there, I would go this route on occasion but I don't trust myself if the car is filthy.

That kind of stuff has been around for at least thirty years. It does have it's place, second-hand car lots use it because it's cheap and fast. No water bill and they don't give a hoot about scratches.
I highly doubt a new car dealer would use it.

ouch dude you're doing it wrong to say. like others have stated that car is beyond filthy for a waterless. ONR is the popular choice for something like that whereas waterless is meant to be used on a car that has very light dirt or dust using multiple towels and heavy saturation of the product on the car to create a barrier between the paint and the towel.

i've used waterless on dirty cars and yes it does work, but if you care about the paint at all forget about it. your car hides many imperfections as well so i'm sure to the average the results look "amazing".

Does California have a water ban on car washes too or only for watering the lawn?

I understand in certain part of the country where local government issues a water ban during a drought. That would be the only time I would attempt anything like this.

I recently got a Trinova product similar to what the OP used.
https://www.amazon.com/TriNova-Water...motive&sr=1-15

I got it no charge as a promotion from Trinova. I tried it and liked it. The formulation seems similar to ONR, but instead of wiping it on and then drying it sprays on, so the wash process takes half the time. I haven't used it to replace ONR, I use it between ONR washings, when it's just dirty enough to need cleaning but not dirty enough to need to use ONR. It's expensive, but I estimate I'll get at least 30 washings from a bottle, so at a dollar per wash it's not so bad.

FWIW - where I live, washing a car can be a pain using tap water. We have stupidly mineral rich water, so if you miss a spot during a rinse or dry, you have a white stain that takes vinegar to remove.

Personally, I am looking at trying Distilled Water in my power washer and using the soap feature.

I use Meguiar's quick detailer for light dust though.

Any kind of waterless wash is just bad. No matter how it is used it swirls the crap out of your paint. A lot of them contain polymer fillers that fill these swirls as you wash so you don't notice what you're actually doing. Then most people use a polymer or silicone sealant over the top, which again fills and hides all the swirls and marring you just inflicted on your car. Theyre just bad, please don't do it. If you cant wash at home, go to a service station and use a jet wash and dry it afterwards.

This includes using quick detailer as a wash as quoted above. If you are wiping dust off your car with any product then you are scratching the crap out of it. QDs are for use on a clean car only.

If you suffer with water spotting, consider getting an inline water purifier on your hose feed. If not, just use a quick detailer to wipe over the car once you have dried it and that should remove the hardest of water spots. No need for Vinegar or anything else acidic.

I would personally love to get my hands on someone's car that swears by waterless washing etc, strip back all the layers of crap product they have covered their car in, put a sun gun on it and show them how badly they have trashed their paintwork, but some people just don't get it, but their car, their choice. I just wish they wouldn't encourage others to do the same and present it as "advice"
