methanol vs ethanol
So this might of been answered before but googling it i cant find much about it ?
Im only spitting this out there to see if anyone has some facts. methanol vs ethanol in the tank. We all know that you put ethanol in the tank to make the fuel E30 blends ect, can you do the same with methanol ? Its like why do we inject methanol with a WMI kit, why dont me inject ethanol ? If its down to cost its the same with making E30 Blends? I know drag cars can run 100% meth, why not ethanol? Just interested if anyone has any logic or facts behind this? |

going from gas to ethanol is the same as going from ethanol to methanol.
methanol has a higher octane rating than ethanol you need a lot more methanol to maintain safe afrs. E85 is more readily available and easy to pump into the tank, while meth needs to be purchased/stored separately. spraying ethanol will have similar effects to meth, but won't raise your octane rating as much as methanol and won't have as much of the same cooling effects. Most of the methanol race cars you see have multiple large injectors for each cylinder and multiple large fuel pumps to keep the engine happy. But your gas mileage would go to complete crap. It's just not practical for a street driven car. For reference: Gas stoich is 14.7:1 E85 stoich is 9.8:1 (+33%) Meth stoich is 4:1 (+72%) Gas octane: 93 E85 octane: 105 Meth octane: 110 |

i did wonder if it was the ease of getting EXX fuel, we in the uk dont sadly have that luxury! And from what i remember ethanol is more expensive/not as readily available
