Story / Rant
Couple of mildly related things, nowhere else really to share...
About a month ago I took my car in to NTB to get the tires rotated and had them check the alignment. I purchased the 5 year alignment package at the beginning of the year, so it wouldn't cost me anything besides the $20 for rotate. They do the rotate and say the alignment is off a bit, they'll get it straightened out. Cool, no big deal, wait another hour and it's good. I leave and the car is pulling to the right. Not severely, but enough to be noticeable when my wife drove it and unprompted, she told me. Take it back in about a week later to have them check it again and they say it's within spec and it's a tire pull. OK, I can accept that, so I drive for another week or so and I'm going on vacation so I can't really do anything until I get back last Monday. It's still pulling, so I make an appointment at a different NTB for yesterday. Take it in, explain to them what happened, guy is actually much more helpful and non-dismissive like the other shop. He comes back in and says, yeah, it's out of alignment and he was trying to be civil, but basically said the other shop didn't do it right. Ugh, wasted 2 hours, but now it's back and all good. Obviously I'll only be going to the 2nd shop from now on, which is fine because they're basically equidistant to my house. 2nd story. There was a BMW CCA event Saturday morning at 7th Gear in Schaumburg where you can stand around and look at each other's cars and shoot the shit and the shop would also put your car up on the lift for a quick inspection. Pull mine in, and I have another oil leak... thought it was fixed early this year, but it's back. Back in January they fixed the torque converter seal and oil pan gasket. CPO warranty still in effect, so I've got an appointment for Wednesday. Also, I have a freakin' cracked rim on my right rear... I should have snapped a picture. It's still holding air, but it's very visibly cracked on the inside. Bought an extended warranty when I bought the car specifically for tire/rim/key and a couple of other things, so $0 deductible. That's getting fixed on Wednesday as well. All in all, glad I went to the CCA event or I wouldn't have known about the oil leak and rim for another couple months when it goes in for an oil change. That's all... just wanted to commiserate .

Looking at the brighter side, at-least you found out that the rim was cracked, before something bad could have happened, and also getting it replaced for free

For sure. Everything is going to work out better in the end and I'm glad I figured it out early.

hm, not sure what you're upset about here. Seems like the alignment issue, oil leak, and rim crack will all be resolved with no cost.. I'd re-title this to "Thankful..." or "Mods Delete..."

Sure it all works out at the end but it's like saying "I know life is tough for you but it will all work out once you die."

I found it a good read. if anything, it demonstrates being proactive instead of reactive. proactive will usually provide lesser headaches and cost!
