Flew to LA and Drove it home yesterday. Was on Wilshire in LA at 1030 am pacific, aka 1130 am mountain, and pulled in my driveway in El Paso Tx at 10:59 pm mountain time. Yes, that’s 192 miles into a tank, and over 448 left to go, at 80+ mph. CA/AZ border to ELP on a single tank of diesel.


About 30 miles into the drive on either i10 or ca60, I saw an f30 M-Sport in MineralGrau a couple cars behind, but when it got level to me it was one of the other 93 mineralgrau msport f31s! Bone stock, like a Time Machine to 5 years ago, first time I bought fk300788.

Today I took to BMW El Paso and my service advisor Heidi, so they could do the state safety inspection so I can get it registered. Diesels don’t have emissions here , they are safety only, but dealerships put the inspection in the state system right away and it’s the same $17 cost everywhere, so also getting a video inspection of underside of it is nice. And they washed the road grime and bugs off it free, also nice.
Heidi also has my preferred tire pressures on file, so I got it back with exactly 34.5 psi front and 38.0 rear, and didn’t have to go around bleeding or adding half pound at a time per corner. Bonus points for Heidi remembering the small details like that.

Back home this afternoon, I started cleaning the f31 up and unloading the spare/original parts stash from the hatch. Sometime in the last two years His dog had tried to stand on and thus broken the rear console vent “flaps” on one side, so he gave me a replacement console vent subassembly in the parts pile so I could fix it.

Only took about 5 minutes to swap out, but add an extra 8-10 minutes to clean everything with detail brushes while it was apart and accessible… aka ‘yak shaving’.

Same with all the hatch bits, vacuumed then brushed then vacuumed, then ‘JDM squash’ over the area, wait 5 min then vacuumed again. Also cleaned leaves and detritus around hatch hinge that had accumulated, and detailed door sills and hinge areas, basically bringing it up to my standards. Found a lot of tell tales and memories like a sticker my teen son left as a joke on the bottom of the trunk mat, and a microfiber I left in it… still there.

My music was still on the HDD, most of my presets still on it, even the usb stick left in usb2 with music videos and movies, like Interstella5555 was still there. Even the destination in ABQ where my son bought his r53 JCW 2 years ago was still in the recents. Total time capsule for me.

But it is now clean inside and out, just need to pop hood and detail engine bay again and it will be back into Daily duty and long distance cruising duties.


Considering this plate for it since it is diesel.

Swapped to my Sottozeros winter set over Thanksgiving; between my life schedule and the bad drought/wildfires we had in the NE, I was trying to do my part and haven't washed her since July.

Now that drought has eased a bit, I'm waiting for it to warm up a little and give it a proper detail. In the interim, sunset pic at my usual corner spot at the local gym.

Installed front spoiler + lip and sideskirt extensions. Did it myself, far from the best work especially on the sideskirts, should've brought it out more, but I'm happy nonetheless, I'd like to change the tyre profile but at least my pothole immunity is increased.
