Frequent LED Adaptive/Low/High Beam Headlight Malfunctions 2016 F30 340 xDrive

This is my first post here so apologies for anything that isn't formatted correctly...

Purchased my 2016 340 xDrive F30/B58 M-Sport a couple years ago used. Has been great except for a few headlight issues. When I originally received it there were some problems with the front driver side light, but luckily it was in warranty so the dealer took care of the replacement. At this time there was no mention of non-OEM parts.

More recently I have started getting malfunctions for the adaptive headlight, low-beam, and high-beam on the passenger side headlight. Generally this failure occurs right after turning the headlights on. Both lights turn on, self-level, and then the passenger one will error out with those malfunctions (angel eyes remain on) and the low beam will go out only on the passenger light. If I flip on the high-beams they will again turn on briefly, and then I will receive the same malfunctions. Sometimes it will get into a loop of turning on, malfunctioning, over and over again.

The strange part is that sometimes it will work perfectly fine. Seems that once it is on it will generally stay on except for when the wheel turns sometimes causing the malfunctions again. There have also been occasions where it will malfunction 2-3 times and then both lights will work without the adaptive functions. I have taken it to both a dealer and local shop, they suspect it is after-market, but all of the modules and parts appear to be OEM. (see photos) The dealer has tried to re-program them a few times with no luck.

Trying to avoid paying ~$2000+ for a new headlight and looking for advice. At this point I was going to start with the non-control modules to start ruling things out. I suspect the adaptive portion may be the cause, but really am not sure.

For anyone that may stumble upon this thread with similar issues...replacing the control module on the side of the headlight seems to have fixed the problem!

Based on the information provided, it seems like there may be an issue with the adaptive headlight module or wiring on the passenger side headlight of your 2016 BMW 340 xDrive F30/B58 M-Sport. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

1. Check the wiring: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the passenger side headlight. Look for any signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion. Ensure that all connections are secure and properly seated.

2. Test the adaptive headlight module: If possible, try swapping the adaptive headlight modules between the driver and passenger side to see if the issue follows the module. This will help determine if the module itself is faulty.

3. Inspect the adaptive headlight motor: The adaptive headlight system relies on motors to adjust the aim of the headlights. Check if the motor on the passenger side headlight is functioning properly and not getting stuck or jammed. Clean the motor and ensure it moves freely.

4. Consider professional diagnosis: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be best to consult with a BMW specialist or dealership. They have the necessary equipment and expertise to perform a detailed diagnosis and identify the exact cause of the problem.

It's important to note that if your vehicle is still under warranty, it would be advisable to contact the dealership to discuss the issue and explore potential solutions. They may be able to offer assistance or provide further guidance.

Ultimately, resolving the issue will depend on identifying the specific component or wiring causing the malfunction. By following these steps and seeking professional help if needed, you can hopefully find a solution without having to spend a significant amount on a new headlight.Purchased my 2016 340 xDrive F30/B58 M-Sport a couple years ago used.
