Ordered it this morning, I've given up drinking so that created more room on the man math spread sheet.

Ha! Nothing fancy just a 30d sdrive (it's all I could afford plus I had one for 12 weeks when the old 740d was in after a bump and I couldn't tell the difference)

I've done the extras bit:

M sport pro pack (20" wheels/tints/spoiler/M brakes, spec'd those in black)
Heated steering wheel
Through load
Piano black trim
Executive drive pro (which was dear at 2.5k)

Dravit Grey with wait for it....cognac/black nappa inside as I fancied something different from black or cream.

I ordered it from Berry BMW

whisper it but I reckon on a car like that a 30d is all that is needed, and that sounds a fab spec./ Sure it will look great from all angles except the front

Yeah I found the 30d a better drive overall 100kg lighter, the new one has 286hp with the MHT and does 60 in 5.7 so that's plenty, the adaptive roll bars with the executive drive pro will be interesting I've always wanted a car with them having once driven a 5 series with them they utterly change the dynamics of the car.

I went for Tartufo leather on my car (which is similarish to Cognac) and don't regret it at all; IMO it gives the interior a warmer and more welcoming feel than cream or white whilst also being much less sombre than black.

Ordinarily that would be a recipe for a financial soaking but in the current crazy market you might even turn a profit!

@Wills2
dravit grey is a fabulous colour. I regret that I couldn't get mine in that. I don't mind the front end of the 7 which is instantly recognisable as a bmw unlike the new 4/m4/3 etc.

Tartufo was my first choice but but it's only available as a £7000 option on the 7 (which is mental)

Yes I'm (currently) sat on a £2800 profit on the golf plus my deposit back, which as you say is crazy.

No it's a fabulous car and I've been really impressed with its dynamics and punch, it really is a stonking hot hatch as fast if not faster than any car I've had over the b roads (well it feels that way) it's a joy to drive and gives you so much confidence and I'm really glad I bought it.

But as the country is opening up I'll be travelling more so when I saw the 7 deal I thought it was too good to miss as I've been after one since the LCI came out (I know I'm odd)

It's horses for courses and shows how difficult it is to have one car that does everything well. I always think mine is a decent compromise in that it's fairly quiet and refined on the motorway but reasonably good on the twisty bits; however, I've been driving Mrs JNW1's Cooper S a bit more over the last couple of weeks and I have to say for the B-road stuff it's more enjoyable - the smaller dimensions and much lower weight make for something that's more agile and involving to drive even if it isn't any quicker.

In actual fact, given I've done very little in the way of longer runs since I got it it's almost got me thinking I might have been better with something like your Golf or maybe even a JCW Mini!

After reading this, thought I'd see what webuyanycar would offer me on the 540. Came back at £37,500, which is about £4k more than the outstanding finance (assuming I run to the end, and so max interest + final payment)

Email today from them offering £38k

I love the 5, but one of the reasons for getting it was space for all the camping crap, and that has now been negated by the camper van, so am starting to wonder whether to go for something less practical, although still usable....

They seem to be offering more today.....

Son in law was telling me they made £9k on a run of the mill Tiguan that they bought at auctions and had in stock having some cosmetic work and prep done for a few weeks... no wonder dealers want your cars!

Of more interest, how are you getting on with the camper....? Been looking at the MB V220d Marco Polo.....

The camper is great. It's really the wife's toy, but we've been away a few times in it and worked out really well. The kids love it, and we now have an small popup tent for chucking crap in when overnighting, and an awning for longer stays.

It's obviously no 5 series in terms of refinement or handling, but can be driven for hours no problem. We have a three week tour around north England planned for the summer, so that will be it's first big trip out.

Being slightly smaller than the 5, it's actually fine as a daily if you want, although only seats four.

Only issue we have so far is that it looks like we might have to replace the leisure batteries, as they are only lasting about 36 hours, and there are two of them.......

I dread to think how much it has gone up in price since we bought it last October

Well stuck the wife's car on motorway today and even if gets just the reserve price we are getting 5k back having put in a 4k deposit 3 years ago.
Bonkers but let's see what offers we get.

Motorway are annoyingly picky about the photos they want but simple enough.

For me it would be just me and the dog so space not an issue, and not a daily as i would still have one of the cars. Trying to work out if a small caravan is a better bet - will have storage for that and both cars next summer...

My brother is having same issues with leisure batteries, he has solar charging but that doesnt work when stored in a barn!

Glad to hear you are going north, no better place!
