Having the same issue with driver side locking. Any luck for those on CPO or out of warranty?

A couple of days ago, my driver door began to stop unlocking with the remote and I now have to use the key to get in. The remote and center console button will still unlock all three other doors but not the drivers. The only thing that unlocks it is the door handle. Now if the door is already unlocked, I can lock it with the fob or center console button, I just can't unlock it with either of the two. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I've got the exact same issue on a 2014 CPO 335i. Managed to get video recreating the issue, so I'm hoping for a hassle free replacement.

After first being denied CPO coverage on this issue earlier this year on my 2013 328i, I recently took my car in for brake fluid service and again mentioned the problem. This time I specifically cited that it was an intermittent problem with the door lock actuator, and also told the service adviser that several people online have had the problem covered under CPO warranty. Lo and behold this time they came back and said that both the driver's and passenger's side lock actuators were being replaced under CPO.

Bottom line is that YES, the lock actuator problem IS covered by the CPO warranty. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

Ironic - this happened to me today. Time to call the world's best Service Adviser at BMW of Reading (PA) (and I'm not being facetious!)

Door actuator bad and needs to be replaced. Same happened to mine. Just take it to the dealer and they'll replace it under CPO warranty with a $50 deductible.

I have a '14 like you, but I was still under my factory warranty. So no deductible.

Damn, just started doing this intermittently on my drivers door. '14 335i w/ 32k miles. Will be taking it in soon, still under warranty. Guess I'll take a video next time it happens.

Anyone find a service bulletin?

Don't sell your negotiating skills short. It's at least worth a shot:

"You replaced this, and now it's broken again. Clearly there's something wrong with this part in general--you can't replace a defective part with another defective part and expect that once my warranty is up, I have to pay to replace it again...with third one that's defective? And I'm reading all over the internet that this part fails all the time. You need to make this right and replace it on BMW's dime."

Worst they can do is say no.

The replacement was less than 2 years old and covered under new car warranty. The SA said replacement coverage ended with 4-yr/50k-mile new car warranty(mine expired a year ago).

If the replacement is paid outside of warranty, then it will be covered 2 years and unlimited miles.

I have a 2013 335i, I thought it was due to cold weather. It appears I have the same problem now and was out of warranty. I only have 47k on mine, is this not a safety hazard? Would be no recall on this? And what is CPO keep seeing that term pop up.

This should be a safety hazard because if you get into an accident and there's no more power from the battery you'll be stuck inside the car

Is this covered under CPO?
My SA says otherwise.

Have your SA point you to the provision of the CPO warranty that excludes it. He should be the one that knows the terms of the warranty--you shouldn't have to go hunting to try and disprove the SA.

Clearly these actuators were designed to fail prematurely.

This is a class action waiting to happen.

I am sick and tired that these fails every 3 years...

My car is now out of warranty and the front pax door is unusable !!

This is unacceptable.

Never such a thing would happen on a Lexus, heck a current Kia . trivial things like that should be super reliable.

What is the solution for those in the same situation as me ?!???
