2019 F32 fuel
Picking up my 2019 Saphire black F32 440 I in 8 days time, only done 2k miles, my question may be stupid but would I gain anything by only using Shell V power 99 octane in it.
I am part exing my 2016 F30 440i in and only ever used 95 octane fuel and never missed a beat in 32k miles, I presume the V power has more/better additives in but will my car love me for it or am I just wasting money. Getting ready for a roasting lol lol |

According to BMW required premium gas in your area, as long as the fuel is what BMW required or above, 99 Oct vs 95 oct will not make a difference. It will only make a difference when you tune your car for more power.

Thanks, I didn't mean power wise I meant are the extra additives etc in the fuel worth it in other respects, I won't tune this until manufacturers warranty expires in any way as we KNOW how arsey they get over warranty work if it's been played with and that is in almost 3 years time Grrrr

I have dabbled with V-power the last three tanks and on mine there is no significant gains in either power or pick up so once my local station adjusts the cost back up (as I can get it at a brilliant price right now) I will go back to fuel saver unleaded.
I would say however in the 8,600 miles I have driven from getting the car brand new, I have only had one fill up with a different brand than Shell (Esso)

Eventually you're going to have to walnut blast the valves... super premium fuels might push that off for an extra couple thousand miles/kms, but you're fine with either, I would imagine.

Granted the B58 is a GDI but I didn't think it would benefit all that much from an oil catch can. Would it leave that much deposit that would require a walnut blast? I thought this engine PCV system was doing a great job from all the previous posts I've read.

When i got my 340i started off with the 95 ron standard Shell but moved to the 99 V power after a couple of months. Not done any exacting testing but my mpg looks to have crept up by 5% approx.
And as i understand it higher octane means theoretically getting a slight increase in BHP. |

Better gas ain’t gonna hurt.
I specifically look for good fuel (with more additives) because it isn’t so much expensive, and is better for my engine. |

Yeah we are lucky in the UK as we have very good fuel and can even get 99 octane from SOME fuel stations and BP are also releasing at a VERY FEW stations 102 octane for track days, so yes, we do ok with our fuel really.

Be interesting to know for sure as i can see no reason you guy's have such low octane fuel, we have to put 95 octane in our lawn mowers/grass cutters, weed whackers etc as 95 is the lowest we have.

European gasoline ratings are RON numbers, whereas US gas ratings are an average of RON and MON numbers. The Us system results in a lower number. It has to do with how the fuel octane content is tested. RON is more of a laboratory testing situation whereas MON attempts to simulate real driving conditions. Bottomline is that 99 RON is about the same as 91 US gas ⛽️.

It's probably the same, but I suspect somebody in CARB found that gas over 91 octane gives of 0.05% more fumes than regular, so it was decided you couldn't have it. Sadly, that means I can't have it either as our gas comes from CA.
