Help me confirm my upcoming process of coding Kombi 6WA

Allright, so I'm about to do my first E-sys coding on my car ( F36 420d ) and it's regarding a 6WA retrofit.

According to the seller from whom I bought the 6WA cluster, it should be virginized. So i dont need to clear any EEPROMS and stuff like that. ( Hopefully )

I have also checked that I have a MOST-interface connection on my HU, wich I have, and a MOST cable between the cluster and HU will be installed

I've done alot of searching here on the forums and googleing in general and this is what I have come up with.

I would really appriciate if someone could confirm that this is the right way to do it, since there seems to be alot of different approaches according to my research and some of them are very old. I'm describing it in the exact order I will execute things.

I'm using E-sys V.3.30.1 and PSdZData Lite V.4.28.21

Okey, so first I need to add 6WA to the FA in the SALAPA folder and also check that the "Zeitkriterium" is over 0311 since the 6WA was only available from March 2011 and on. My car is a 2016 so I should be fine.

This is before installing the new cluster.

In E-sys:

1. Go to "COMFORT MODE" / "TAL-Calculating
2. Click Vehicle Order "Read"
3. Click Vehicle Order "Save" Choose "New FA" as filename
4. Click Vehicle Order "Edit"
5. Expand the "FA" folder, then "FZAuftrag" then "TYPE"
6. If "Zeitkriterium" is anything lower than "0311" I'll change it
7. Click on "SALAPA-Element"
8. Add "6WA" to the "SALAPA-Elements List"
9. Click the SAVE icon
10. Click the "BACK" arrow in the top toolbar and select "YES" when prompted to reload Vehicle Order
11. Check that 6WA was succesfully changed in the FA-list ( and "Zeitkriterium if that was necessary )

*INSTALL NEW CLUSTER*

Now I need to inject a new CAFD and VO-code KOMBI in E-sys:

1. Connect and click "Read FA" (VO)
2. "Activate FA" (VO)
3. "Read ECU" (VCM)
4. Left-Click on "KOMBI" and Click on "Detect CAF for SWE"
5. Select CAFD from latest I-Level
7. Right-Click on the "KOMBI" folder and select "CODE"

And hopefully that's it!

I've seen alot of people suggesting to VO-Code HU_NBT aswell. But since i dont have navigation it does not matter right?

IF the KOMBI does not appear in the list, I need to delete the "BKOMBI" in SVT-editor:

1. Read SVT in
2. Save the file
3. Edit the file in SVT-Editor and delete BKOMBI
4. Go to File and select SVT-Target and load the edited file
5. Go to Master and Write SVT Target.
6. Go back to TAL Cal and read SVT again and chech that BKOMBI is not present
7. Read the ECU again and now KOMBI should appear in red color.

A question regarding the I-level. Does it have to be an exact match to my cars I-level? And what do i do if there is no correct level to choose from?

Thank you to anyone whos willing to take their time and correct my "guide"

I really want to be as prepared as possible before starting to code!

It is necessary that you VO code the HU_NBT because only after that the MOST connection will be activated and only then the new Kombi should be visible.
So after the first steps code the HU_NBT, then Read Ecu (not read VCM) and then the second steps.

Otherwise the steps should be correct.

Allright, so it should be like this:

1. Connect and click "Read FA" (VO)
2. "Activate FA" (VO)
3. Code (VO) "HU_NBT"
4. "Read ECU" (VCM)
5. Left-Click on "KOMBI" and Click on "Detect CAF for SWE"
6. Select CAFD from latest I-Level
7. Right-Click on the "KOMBI" folder and select "CODE"

More like this...

1. Connect and click "Read FA" (VO)
2. "Activate FA" (VO)
3. "Read ECU"
4. Code (VO) "HU_NBT"
5. Again "Read ECU" - Kombi should now appear

Super! Thank you very much!

And what about the I-Level, is it crucial to have the exact same I-Level as the car?

No, it doesn't have to be the same i-level.
There shouldn't be big differences in the i-level from the ecus, but for the Kombi it's not that bad.

I've just carried this out on my car, however I now have no gear indicator to say if I'm in park or drive on the cluster. Also the message that used to come up for the heated steering wheel no longer displays. I tried several different CAFs but they were all the same and the newest one available is 14-03-503.

Has anybody got any suggestions?

Fixed the gear indicator at least; FDL coded SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE in Kombi from "aktiv" to "nicht_aktiv" and now I have P, R, N, D and S in the cluster as normal. The steering wheel heating still doesn't display on the Kombi though.

Have you actually coded the Kombo to your car properly?

Yep, changed FA, coded headunit, detected caf for swe and coded kombi.
All works just seems to be on old software.

Could it require flashing?

It could require flashing - best to make sure the HU and Kombi are on the same or very close firmware levels

Sigge, did you complete the retrofit successfully?

I want to fit 6wa also and your instructions are the best I've found

Hi

Hello everyone. I have finished the retrofit of kombi to 6WA on f30, everything is working perfect. But when I go to ISTA and try do do the programming plan it is still asking me to exchange kombi with the order number 5A03A19, when I googled the order number 5A03A19 google showed me the old type of the cluster that I had before retrofit. And I can't execute the measures plan. Even though there is no fault memory on the control unit tree. Anyone had the same problem, or if anyone can help me, maybe I did something wrong or I missed something when I did the retrofit.!!?

Sorry to chime in,

Just installed 6WA in my F10 successfully using Detect CAF for SWE for KOMBI method. Should I VO Code HU_NBT as well?

I take it you already had an optical MOST connection active to split off from?

On the F30 the NBT unit acts as the MOST gateway but if I remember rightly it’s different on the F10 which would be why you have it working without coding NBT.

There are a load of kombi related codings in the HU CAFD though so it is best to code it.
