That may indicate a short circuit in the speaker wiring, causing the amp to go into protect mode.

Yes I was thinking that but would that be the pnp harness shorting? Or something in the HK amp Will have to strip out and investigate

Check to make sure the additional amplifier is at the same ground reference as the factory amp.

Awesome glad you sorted it out before I had a chance to respond!!

So what did you end up doing for upgrades? I'm getting ready to go down that rabbit hole myself for my F36!! It will be a summer of fun!

The m0bridge K2 8.1.1 might come later in the summer, after a full color correction of my car, PPF and ceramic coat, I have a few chips to fix with a difficult paint finish to touch up (mineral white). Damn this hobby is expensive!!

I kept my Earthquake under seat woofers and Morel Hybrid 402 for the front doors from my previous F30 install, so it should be interesting to make a comparison with the HK system. This time around I'll take some response measurements with my Smaart rig before and after the upgrades. I have to wonder if a better passive crossover for the HK door speakers might prove beneficial? I haven't opened the door panel yet to see what is there now, but I suspect it's just a capacitor. I'm waiting for it to warm up. Summer tire swap happening tomorrow if the weather is nice!

HK and Hifi just use a single capictor on tweeter and nothing for a low pass filter on the door mid.

But Bill has shared a design for a superior crossover build and component for hifi and HK. It would also work with and improve most aftermarket passive crossovers no doubt.

Thanks, I had an idea of using fiberglass but I got a 1/4 sheet of MDF for £5 and thought why not give it a go and see what happens. So I got the jig saw out, a few swear words and some fettling we got there. It took about a day and a half to sort the box out from scratch. It’s about 15l inside which was the minimum requirement for the sub (focal P 27v2) 300w rms. If anyone is doing a similar setup I would advise using the lowest setting on the crossover, for best results. This things pounds you and it’s clear all the way through the volume range.
