Quaife LSD Differential build and install

On the advice of Lancelot moving forward with a Quaife Differential on my F30 highly modified AH3.

Went about it differently than others.

Found a used 2017 Differential on eBay with 9k miles for $180 (had a broken outer seal which scared most away).

Was in Trenton, NJ so I had someone drive it to the Quaife Distributor/Machine Shop in Philadelphia avoiding shipping charges and also visually inspect Differential.

A weld needs breaking in the BMW Differential and a machine shop to complete the rebuild.

They are starting the rebuild process.

Will have it installed at LABWORXS in Cherry Hill, NJ.

This allows me to keep the stock OEM Differential for whatever reason in future should I want to go back to stock and sell Quaife unit (highly doubt it).

Also allows me to keep car operational during the rebuild time.

Will update as it proceeds.

Nice. I was looking at wavetrac because I believe they sell the whole assembly with a core charge. But this seems cheaper if deals like that can be found.

Well it's an electronic diff to begin with so you'd need an ecu that would accept to play with the rest of the car's ecus, then physically the attachment points to the subframe are different (as f80 subframe is different too).

F80 final ratio is 3.46 unlike the f30s, even if the other parts would match up (they do not) as Lancelot stated.

The N55 F30s run 2.81 (d and AH3), 3.15 Sports/Automatic and 3.23 Manual

The B58 F30s run 2.81 Sports/Automatic or 3.13 Manual.

If buying a used differential, you need to make sure it matches up to what up you have.

How much was the damage? I'd like to do this as well, I'd prefer a quaife or wavetrac over the m performance...

Rough figures, $1500 for the Quaife.

Another $1100 to mod the current dif as a machine shop is needed with special equipment to break weld and modify it with Quaife. Most shops do not have the equipment to machine this.

And about another 4 hours of labor to install modified dif in car.

I'm surprised the quaife diff itself was so expensive, I was under the impression that they went for about a grand... or were you adding in the cost of the donor pumpkin as well?
